so far as i know as one of those weird adults who still follows the franchise, there's never been a canonical instance of scoobert being Not At All A Dog, but one series did say he was canonically distantly related to an alien race as an explanation for why he talks and has human mannerisms. not even shitting you. but he's still "just" a dog in that series ("just" in quotes because HE'S A TALKING FUCKING DOG), not an abominable outer space horror that looks and acts vaguely like a dog and is labeled as one because of it

id probably definitely start watching again if they did an entire series of episodes like that.. following clue after clue, getting closer and closer to the realization that the dog in their van is most definitely Not a Dog, nor is he anything they've ever encountered.
