A scene
Komitadjie and I had been discussing for a while.
Balco did a superb job bringing it to life.
Months had passed since Tricia found herself aboard this strange planet of metal and glass. A hive of corridors that could contain every city she had ever known and still feel empty, the Sevrid was as alien to the cockatrice as anything could be. Her time here had been part excitement, terror, helplessness, and, ironically, enthralling. She had been a conqueror, prisoner, slave, weapon, and, finally, a lover. The feline beneath her, a snow leopard and a 'taur, accepted one of her cursed eggs into his unguarded hands. He had been responsible for all of that. He was the lord of this strange place and had earned not only her respect, but adoration and affection as well.
He had been so careful and cautious, exercising control over Tricia and letting her have it back bit by bit, never forgetting where the true authority lay. And, as he got to know her, as she began to understand him, the gulf between the two had closed. They were both creatures who reveled in their freedom and enjoyed existence to the fullest. If someone else got in the way of that, well, that was part and partial to the challenge. Their adventures on both missions and in the quiet void between worlds had show them how much they were alike and, eventually, how much they enjoyed each other's company.
Now, in this place, the subaudible hum of ventilation, electronics and their own breathing filling the room, the commander of this city in the sky, Komitadjie of the Battle Station Sevrid, let Tricia the Glass Cockatrice kiss him. Already his hands had turned to transparent crystal. It worked its way quickly up his arms toward his shoulders. Despite most rational thought and advice, he trusted her. Once his chest and head became a tough, see-through, diamond-like substance, stained lightly with his previous fur patterns and textures, he would be completely at her mercy. He understood the risks and still did so willingly.
Tricia stared at him, an expression of serene contentment covering his now frozen face. His lips remained puckered in the kiss they had shared. She could feel the rest of the taur's long body transforming beneath her. Soon, cool, hard glass replaced the soft, warm fur. She turned, following the progression as it took his rear hips, thighs, and toes. His massive, fluffy tail was the last to freeze into that delicate-looking, glittering arrangement. Finally, he was but a statue beneath her. She could do so much to him now. Tricia could easily place a compulsion on his mind and return him to flesh, making this battle station's captain a puppet under her command. She could consume the crystalline body, savoring the taste of her former captor bite by bite. She could animate him as he was, a golem with the mind of the original trapped within.
Her flexible beak turned up in a smile at that last thought and, with another, the diamond-like crystal began to move beneath her. Joints flowed almost like liquid, shifting around without even so much as a scrape of crystal on crystal. His tail tip flicked back and forth as fluid as when he were flesh. The crystalline eyelids opened and, despite only pale glass eyes beneath them, seemed to focus on her. His forepaws kneaded at her hips while he lifted his hands to his face and started taking stock of himself. The large egg still in his left hand, he wiggled the fingers of his right, then turned a smile on the cockatrice. Even his teeth were of that clear crystal. In fact, the only thing to survive the change were some of Komi's larger implants. Traces of wire and controllers were visible suspended in his new body.
~Well, this is different~ Komi said with a chuckle.
Though his mouth and tongue moved as normal, no sound left them. His voice only registered in Tricia's mind. That was normal. All her golems communicated with her and each other that way. "And yet, you're still yourself," she replied, speaking out loud. "Ready to return to flesh?"
It took Komi a moment to respond as he was busy tapping his knuckles against the metallic deck plating. It clacked sharply. ~Not just yet,~ he said into her head. ~Do me a favor and tell the deck officer to ready an EVA pack. Not the suit, just the jets. I'm going for a walk!~
Tricia laughed and picked herself up, ready to comply. There was a reason she liked this one. He never failed to impress!
