Well, at least this time Stygian is actually a really relatable character. I think that more than a few of us can see ourselves in Stygian, not really having any outstanding qualities, and feeling invisible and out of place when we are beside friends whom are successful, feeling like a third wheel.
I can absolutely see myself in Stygian, so much that it hurts...

His character is kind of like nightmare moon if you think anout it, but did you also thinik of him like the venmon symbiot when you saw him? Cause kind reminded me of that. I could think of a few things they could done for him thwt would been better than a pony becoming curropted by another entity.

I think pony shadows should been an entity that came from another dimension and he needed a host to take temproarily as crossing dimension drained him freatly. Unfortunaly otherw of his kind culdnt cross so needed to create a portal of some kind to release his kind. The pillars managed to stop him and evdntaully rerutrn thanks to twilight. I think he shoudl succeed to and this causes twilight o have there allied helo them fight against the darkness. Though knowing hasbro be a slapstick fight but it is a cartoon after all. Anywqys thats just my two cents on what happen.

Also am i only one see inconsistency when come to tree of harmony? The pullars created the tree in hopes protect equestria? Didnt celestia and luna find the before star swirl and luna? Gets alitte confusing cause i thought stawrswirl wsa present with nightmare moon event, so wouldnt thwt elements exist long before they planted these seeds? Maybe over thinking something or perhaos writers didnt think it through

Yeah. I prefer alot of fanfics over the story as i enjoy how some of them are well thouth out compared what show usualy us. Plus some fics are more mature adience most time to and they do alittle more than writers

Also, that is a very good point! according to the MLP timeline, Starswirl was actually supposed to be around AFTER the Nightmare Moon event, (at least according to the comics), and the princesses found the Tree of Harmony to defeat Discord "thousands" of years prior. I felt that something seemed off about the whole Pillars creating the tree thing, but I never really put my finger on it.
Talk about some massive inconsistencies! Not to mention the inconsistencies of the Pillars' characters between the comics and the finally, or the notion that their objects should hold any kind of special powers. I mean, yeah, Rockhoof's shovel makes sense, but why would Somnambula's blindfold have power? And how would it be used? She didn't use it when fighting the Sirens. Seems a bit sketchy.

I hate to say it, but the writing for this season finally was rather shotty. Hopefully it was just that the writers were working on the movie, and the writing will be a little better from now on, but these are some pretty huge mess-ups

Thats why i have alwqys been a fan of fanfic writers over the show writerw cause they seem to put more thuight and effort into there creations. I think starswirl was aronud i think before or after discord and around time that celestia an luna wielding the elements to stop him. He should been around teh same time sombra came into existance as well. Also as said he was there during wnd after luna turne dinto nightmare moon and if mistaken he was a but older too comapired how they potray him in show.

So i think i will stick to good fanfics where stories are more flushed out wnd often better, not all them but there are some good ones. ^^ i also think of alot fanfics i read be alternate universe from the show thwt tend to ne slightly more realistc on how to handle sitations too.

Yeah, when you actually stop and think about the MLP timeline, it becomes rather apparent that the writers have not really taken the time to develop an actual timeline to show the sequence of events, and that there must be very little communication between the comic writers and the show writers.
Although, I suppose if you separate the show and the comics completely, the timeline can be somewhat feasible, mostly because they never actually tell you how long it has been. Although, if you then try to factor in the EG movies, one inconsistency pops up, in Rainbow Rocks. If we are now considering that Starswirl disappeared before the tree of harmony, then he disappeared before the initial defeat of discord, which we can only verify that it was before the Nightmare Moon incident. I thought at first that Discord's defeat was from thousands of years in the past from a comment he made about planting the plunder seeds, but Discord actually stated that the seeds were supposed to sprout thousands of "MOONS" before that episode. Since 1000 moons equates to about 74.8 years, then does not equate to much, especially since we know that the Nightmare Moon incident was 1000 years ago, and Discord's timeline with the plunder seeds overlaps that, 1000 years being over 13000 moons. That means the Nightmare Moon incident could have immediately followed the defeat of Discord. So we can only verify for sure that Starswirl was thrown into limbo over 1000 years in the past, as they said in the show. How much more, we cannot determine for sure by the show alone.
So, this suggests the Sirens were defeated, and thrust into the EG world over 1000 years in the past, so how were they still alive when Rainbow Rocks occurred, since they were tuned into humans, and how long exactly were they there, since they were still teens? I guess you could say that the times of each world differs dramatically between the two worlds, (the EG world's time moving much faster than the time in Equestria) but then that wouldn't explain the time between when Sunset first went through the portal (prior to Celestia taking Twilight as a student) and the first EG movie, or the time in between the movies, where the times of the two worlds seem to be closer to the same speed.

Geez, I'm getting way to analytical about this cartoon of magical, technicolor, talking ponies. XP

So a thousand years ago luna was banished, sombra was banished, tirek, was banished, and pony of shadow was banished. Yet the tree of harmony didnt exist a thousand years ago cause pillars of lights created seed that they okanted into the ground that would grow into tree of harmony. But conudrum is that if starswirl was around when discord, sombra, and some others were defeated how did the tree exist? Again doesnt make sense. But guess since a kids show i guess doent really need make any sense.

i havnt seen it yet but he sounds better then king sombra to me :p

Well, Stygian is definitely a good character, but the Pony of Shadows has just about as much character development as Sombra did, and his design is design is severely lacking.
Hell, Stygian's decedent even made a massively better villain than the Pony of Shadows did!

I suppose it makes it worse because of all the buildup to the finally, that I was expecting something a bit... more

All I know is that he is big, and that's all I need to get my imagination going.
