Another fun thing I found on that Venice Beach walk. There was this pretty little neighbourhood near the beach that seemed to be a world of it's own: a little fenced-in sort of alleyway ran in between and behind the houses- no road, just a sidewalk- and the backyards were these welcoming little oasis that you couldn't see unless you were on this path. Too cool. I found so many neat and interesting things there...
...like this wonderful hanging dragon who seems to be just floating in mid-air. The householder had these amazing coloured glass chandeliers in amongst the branches, too.

Yeah. There were other cool bits, too- the locals like thier murals, little mosaics in the sidewalks or on their fence-walls, they paint their houses pretty colours, string up lights, coloured glass chandeliers, and windchimes, have plants and vines and just do things for the pretty.
Ooooh! I love female body-builders! I actually tried to do that for a while, but I'm a lazy sod, and I hated the idea of "cutting up" to strip all the fat down from my body for competitions. I got ripped, but there was an obvious layer of fat over it. I looked bulky as hell- even fat, which was not what I was aiming for. Unfortunately, I couldn't maintain the gym membership- too expensive to keep after I lost my job. So now I really am fat. Kani and I have been discussing the possibility of joining a gym to help us with the weight-loss we both want to do, and I wouldn't mind getting back into the weights. I'll need a good supply of pumping, hard-driving Industrial and Goth music to listen to keep me going, though. *grins* Good thing I have a fat collection of just that sort of thing. Musical distraction will allow me to keep up with a boring routine.
Yeah- I'd love to have creative-minded neighbours like that one. There are a few here in the apartment complex, though: one lady has a little "garden" in pots all around her patch of concrete by her door, the guy upstairs has his own little owrld on the porch, and the landlord/caretaker grows his own spices by the pool. And me? I'm building a faery garden with flowering plants, clover, cool stones I picked up from the Santa Monica Beach, chimes and other fun things. Even got a cute little faery statue under the clover.
I'm not actually sure what it was made of, but it looked like heavy plastic- probably had to be. It hung in all weather, I imagine rain would destroy it, and it didn't look at all bedraggled. But so COOL- I wonder where they found it, as I saw nothing like it in LA's Chinatown.
