There was fire engine neon
So bright, the blind could see them

It was embarrassing,
while with my close chums
You came out into the cold air
Wearing nothing but buttons

You claimed to know me
But I just turn away
Mumbled gruffly into cupped paws
"Have a nice day"

Sadness, your expression..
How could I leave you standing there?
While my friends all laugh and point..
Other bystanders staring..

So I, stripped to my skivvies,
To stand by your side
