I was at Lake Compouce on the 13th, and needed something to do while I waited in line for 40 minutes. SO I shot pictures of bee's...and petted them. I love the looks people give me while I'm stroking a be with a finger tip!

Yeah, this is a younger queen Carpenter. You can tell because the head is still fuzzy, as they age, the head tends to de-fuzz. Still, she was nearly almond sized...and fun to pet.

Heh not bad. Always wanted to get some shots of bumbles (or carpenters in my case around here) but by the time I've got everything set right, the bee goes buzzing off on its merry way.

yeah, the bumbles aren't as populous as the Carpenters. Not that I mind though, Carpenters are twice the size!

Back in my old neighborhood we had sand hornets... imagine a yellowjacket blown up to the size of a hummingbird.
