So, I've been hinting at this for a long time, but here's time to finally let it out... NEW TEXTURES!
Since last update to blender, there has been some new texturing tools, so I decided to convert all the setup I had to it... and also doing a complete texture upgrade and shaders overhaul! I looked at original SEGA artwork for Sonic and decided to go from there, as you can see the more obvious lighter aura around the edges of the characters, something I feel add a lot to make the models feel more professional and polished.
And talking about polish... I've also learned to do no-background images that doesn't look like crap! Usually I'd just leave the background transparent, just the models floating... and over time I just realized it looks like fucking trash! So after digging around a bit, I found an option to have shadows casted into transparency, so that helps.
The "patch notes", for whoever is curious (thanks for being curious and reading my ramblings <3 ) is as follows...
-Better textures overall, higher resolution, more detailed, better colors, etc
-Slight changes to some proportions, I've made the arms of some characters a bit smaller, to be a bit more fitting with the size of their bodies
-Better looking shoes (but who needs those, am I right? )
-Better toes (MUCH better toes)
-And probably a controversial change... now ALL models have soles the same color as their skin/fur! As in Sonic has blue soles, Amy has pink soles, and Shadow black soles. Of course this can be easily changed back, if say a commissioner prefer tanned soles.
And the best part is... this update, along with the last one (check this post for info on the last one) is already up on most of my models! You'll see it in action on the next posts ^^
OH and since this is a foot fetish place, after all, click the link bellow for a barefoot version of this image, It's not amazing, since I had the shoes in mind for this image, but still:

HAve you used substance painter yet? I bloody love it.
This is fantastic work - especially knowing you made it through blender's texture platform - which im very familiar with ::)
Weird question - have you ever attempted to make your model rigs "wear" shoes over their feet? I've tried - seems hard and I mean - physics dependent wearing.
Do you do much animation in blender? I've been messing with it alot.

I've used it, yes... I haven't used it for these models cuz... I didn't need it, the only thing I wanted to do was the new normal maps on the fur, but the paint tool there isnt amazing for straight lines, trying to paint the individual spikes on sonic's head just didnt work at all. I just do work with photoshop, the NVIDIA normal map converter is a godsend.
Wearing shoes like that just seems unnecessary, sounds more useful for flip-flops...
And I haven't tried animation yet, I should sometime
