And I'm still kind of working on the plot and in essence the character itself. As it is right this moment, I'm leaning towards 'she' for Alexandria and 'he' for Alexander, but if I find a more nuanced way of representing "designated male by curse" I'm definitely interested in exploring it.

There's certainly a large possibility space there!
For example, for some people, gender is a core element of their identity whether trans or cis; for others, it's not very important and they'll go with the flow.
So in one scenario Alex's conflict includes escaping a role that is not her; in another his conflict is simple unfamiliarity with the role. (And that's hardly exhaustive, even leaving species-related conflicts aside.)
Of interest too, your Korinatomy notes suggest that Korin and humans have differences in the way their gender roles are constructed. Alex would presumably have internalized human concepts of gender, but in Korin circles they might face a culture shock whichever role they tried to perform.
