Alastair is a chain smoking drinker, with recurring depression.
You will almost never see him without a cigarette in his mouth, and will probably end up with cancer one of these days.

He was date-raped by a previous boyfriend, and thus turned to self mutilation in an attempt to release the stress and pain causes by such a turn of events. After three years of such activity, his closest friend convinced him there were other ways of relieving stress and he hasn't taken a knife to himself for almost seven months.

He occasionally has problems with self-image, and will sometimes binge and purge to have the illusion that he is losing weight. It's more of an on and off thing than anything; when he's eaten too much at a dinner party or something similar he'll take to the washroom.

Alastair is somewhat of a nymphomaniac, but it's more due to the fact that he's been trying to find affection and love since his rape. Obviously it isn't the right way to go, and so far he hasn't found what he's been looking so desperately for.

Alastair O' Leary was originally meant to be a male version of myself.
After a while, though, I began to feel differently towards him.
Alastair has thus become a manifestation of a lot of the negative things in my past.
