My father had a very good job; he made plenty of money and I never was left wanting, though my mother was sure to temper my desires and be generous.

After Suss and I had become long time friends ,we spent most of our time together in my garden. The dimmer sunlight was easier on my eyes and it gave us some privacy.

One day, a marketplace had a capsule machine that dispensed plastic rings with little plastic gemstones. Suss was very excited and spent the last of her allowance on the machine but didn't get the ring she wanted. I had a lot of change on me, so I just bought all of them. One after another, and we took them all to my home.

We sat in the shade of my garden and opened capsule after capsule, but we were still coming up empty and not finding the rings with the colors we liked.

Finally, when we opened the last two, we found the rings, though I had found the purple one she wanted while she found the red one I wanted. We smiled and traded rings, placing them on eachother's fingers before we pressed our hands together.

We promised on these rings that we'd always be together; that nothing would pull this friendship apart.
