people were bathing during the middle ages, there were quite the number of bathhouses at that period, and some rich people had their own tubs
bathing effectively dropped in poularity due to the black plague. people believed that the disease was carried by water and thus limited their contact with the liquid. this episode happened during the 14th century (the middle ages lasted from the 5th to the 15th centuries) really most of that fad of not bathing was experienced during the renaissance, which was one of the reasons of the devellopement of the perfume industry at that era
