As many times as some of you guys have possible said "ABOUT TIME", I'm sure it has never been louder than it is right now! Heck, even I'm shouting it at the top of my lungs as I write this! But it's time! As a good portion of you guys already know about the cute rat Mamori, but there is still one glaring question that needs to be asked: HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY KNOW?! Well I think it's time we answer that question and there is no better way than with her background, so let us begin!!
Name: Mamori Sweets
Age: 23
Species: Rat
Background: Left at the door of a small orphanage, Mamori grew up with no knowledge of her parents or where she came from, with the only thing she was sure of being the name she was given. The orphanage that cared for Mamori when she was found raised her as a boy given her physiology, which at the time was no issue. Mamori acted no different from a normal child, but as she grew the caretakers began noticing interesting things about her. Mamori acted differently than what was expected or what was considered "normal" as she seemed to enjoy more feminine toys and games rather than things a "boy" her age would. The caretakers, finding this odd, tried to force Mamori to play with toys they felt she should be playing with, which in turn saddened her. Because of this treatment, Mamori would play with the girl’s toys in secret, free to play with whatever she liked. One day however, one of the girls in the orphanage found Mamori playing by herself, startling the young rat who begged the girl not to tell the caretakers. The young girl, instead of laughing or judging Mamori, stated the toy Mamori was playing with was one of her favorites as well and asked if she wanted to play with her and her friends. Reluctant at first, Mamori said she was ok, but was “convinced” when the girl pulled her along to play with her. Playing amongst the girls, Mamori felt much happier than she did when she was forced to play with boy toys and as a result, she continued to play with the girls for the weeks to come. Oddly enough, the caretakers did not bother Mamori as she seemed more energetic and full of life, but this did not stop them from keeping a watchful eye on her. One day when Mamori was playing with the girls, they decided to play dress up and dressed Mamori up in various dresses and other such accessories. As Mamori tried each outfit on, she found herself enjoying each one, feeling much more comfortable wearing them than the boyish cloths she was provided. Due to this feeling, Mamori would dress up in girls’ clothing whenever she had the opportunity because she felt very comfortable and extremely natural when doing so. However, it was here that things got difficult for Mamori as the caretakers found this out and reprimanded her for dressing as a girl, stating it was not natural. Things grew worse when the boys found out as they would tease and bully Mamori for dressing up and her interests. Due to this treatment, Mamori grew very afraid and depressed and she soon began playing by herself once again. Not only did this prevent both the caretakers and children from seeing her, it also prevented potential foster families from adopting Mamori, ensuring she would continue to stay in her current situation. Mamori would sometimes catch a glimpse at the love foster families would give their newly adopted child and envied the children who were adopted, imagining being taken to a loving environment where she wouldn’t be bullied. Every day, Mamori would spend time alone, drawing whatever came to mind or what made her happy, but there was one drawing that was very prominent among the rest. Mamori would repeatedly draw herself dressed in dresses and skirts, alongside a family that loved her and let her live the way she wanted to. As many children came and went from the orphanage, Mamori grew more and more discouraged, feeling as if she would be stuck at the orphanage forever, but she could never bring herself to interact with the parents who came by, with the teasing of the other orphans still echoing in her head. Due to this factor, Mamori was the only one who stayed at the orphanage for an extended time, with her only comfort being her dreams of being taken away from her situation.
After a while of not seeing her, the caretakers went looking for Mamori, eventually finding out where she had been hiding. They would repeatedly and silently check on her, noticing how depressed she was and the overall lack of energy she now displayed. After a while, the orphanage caretakers started talking amongst themselves, asking what they should do. After a bit of talking, one care taker stated that Mamori was much happier when she played with girls, recalling that she was much livelier and at ease back then, but now that it had stopped her demeanor changed drastically from what it once was. The caretakers decided to talk to Mamori personally to get her take on the situation and confronted her on the matter. Asking Mamori why she had been so sad and reclusive, the caretakers wanted her to be as open and honest with them as she possible could. Initially reluctant to say her true feelings, Mamori could only look at the ground with her emotions overwhelming her, still frightened in terms of what to say. It was only after they ensured her that they wouldn’t get mad that Mamori stated everything on her mind and why she avoided contact with the other children. When the caretakers asked if Mamori was really happy with dressing up in girls’ cloths and playing with the girl toys, Mamori stated that she was happier when she did those things. The caretakers thanked Mamori for her honesty and sent her off to go play while they discussed what they should do. Believing this was merely a phase, the staff decided to allow Mamori to dress as a girl, but decided to take things a step further. Not only did they allow Mamori to dress as she wanted, but the staff decided to transfer her to a different orphanage that would allow her to live without being bullied and for her to get a fresh start. After a few days, the caretakers informed Mamori that they would send her to another orphanage and give her some girls clothing so she could dress the way she wanted. Happy about this, Mamori was excited to move to a new place where she wouldn’t be bullied. After a month of preparation, Mamori was dressed as a girl and sent to another orphanage by the caretakers under the guise of the old orphanage being crowded. When Mamori first got there, she was still a bit reluctant to talk to anyone due to her being new and the lingering fear holding her back, but these reservations vanished when she was invited to play with the other kids by a girl she was introduced to by the new caretakers. Playing amongst the other girls, Mamori noticed that no one gave her weird looks and no one teased her, in fact they treated her no differently than any other girl. However, something very interesting began happening after several years. When Mamori reached the age of 13, her body began to change, her figure began to slim and she began to gain subtly curves, her voice grew sweeter, and her breasts began to slowly, but surely bud. After several years, Mamori began to grow into a fine young lady, looking no different from the other girls of the orphanage. Playing and learning amongst the other children, Mamori felt much happier and at ease, but as she witnessed many of them being adopted by loving families, she began to feel empty yet again. While she wanted to be adopted, Mamori couldn’t shake her anxiety and make herself known to the families who visited, constantly hiding whenever they arrived to look at the orphans. Frustrated with herself, Mamori couldn’t bring herself to interact with potential foster families, and could only draw her dreams and thoughts while she hid from their eyes.
After several years, the caretakers confronted Mamori, informing her that due to her age she would be sent to an all-girls boarding school along with the other girls of similar age so that she could continue her learning, stating that she still had the potential to be adopted should families visit the school. After 3 months, Mamori, along with the other girls of similar age were sent to a boarding school that was sponsored by the orphanage that previously took care of her. It was here that Mamori attended classes in a similar fashion to a normal high school, all the while living her life as she saw fit. Not much had changed from her time in the orphanage so it was fairly easy to adjust to this new life style. While living at the school, Mamori was taught various things from how to be a proper lady and various forms of education. However, there was something that caused Mamori a great deal of unease and confusion. During her life science class, Mamori observed as her teacher gave a lecture on the differences between males and females. It was from this lecture that Mamori realized various things, such as the reason she was teased and treated the way she was by the caretakers of the first orphanage. After realizing this, Mamori questioned various things about herself and grew more and more confused and afraid, and given her current position in an all-girls school, she would go to great lengths to hide this from everyone around her, feeling as if no one would understand or be able to tell her anything. Mamori was able to keep this a secret for 3 years, all the while regressing to her mindset back when she was younger, once again preventing potential families from seeing her, let alone adopting her. Unfortunately, the fourth year was the most difficult for Mamori, as she was required to actively take a swimming class, and knowing that she would have to change in the locker room with others and put on a swimsuit, Mamori was more than apprehensive about it. Mamori would try any and every excuse she could to get out of attending the class, such as purposely getting in trouble to get detention, feigning sickness, or pretending she had to help another teacher at the moment. However, these excuses could only go so far as Mamori’s swim instructor would pressure Mamori into taking her classes, threatening her with failure if she didn’t comply. Several times Mamori has been pressured in attending, but would change after everyone was gone and doing something to cover herself once she was attending class. This worked but when the instructor started demanding Mamori show up with the rest of the class, things became even more difficult, but one day things started to fall apart for Mamori.
One day Mamori tried to secretly dress up for swim class, when another student came across the bare rat. Before she could get her question out, the student noticed Mamori’s secret and with a shocked exclamation, made it apparent to the other girls who were getting ready for class. The other girls rushed to see what the commotion was, only to see an exposed Mamori frantically trying to cover herself. Everyone was in either awe or in shock at what they saw, quickly labeling Mamori a freak. In a panic, Mamori quickly gathered herself, got dressed, and ran out the locker room, back to her dorm room. Embarrassed and distraught to the point tears, Mamori could only cry, her confusion spiraling with her sorrow. For several days, Mamori pretended to be sick in order to avoid going out and being seen by the other girls…unfortunately, this only worked for a day as her fellow dorm mates soon found out due to news spreading so rapidly. Soon even Mamori’s dorm mates started treating her like an oddity and a freak, constantly teasing her and mocking her. The torment only increased further when Mamori was in the open, as other girls would relentlessly question or tease her, with every encounter leading to Mamori being in tears. This bullying increased steadily over the weeks, so much so that Mamori had reached her depressed state from before, only this time it was much worse. Eventually, Mamori grew so upset that one night, she packed as much of her belongings as she could and ran away, not caring where she went but so long as she could be alone. Over the next two years, Mamori lived on the streets, moving frequently so that she wouldn’t be found and taken back to the bordering school. Over the couple years, Mamori grew even more discouraged, doodling whatever could momentarily take her mind of her situation. These doodles and drawings gave Mamori a glimmer of hope and kept her from completely breaking down, but soon even this escapism started to fade along with any hope Mamori had. One day Mamori was on her last glimmer of hope and feeling as if no one would want her, she began to slowly break down in tears, which caught the attention of a friendly passerby. Orion, who had been running errands for Lunara caught wind of Mamori’s sobbing and kindly asked Mamori what was wrong. Not sure if she could trust Orion, Mamori stated she was fine, despite that being an obvious lie. Orion felt sad for Mamori and asked again, only for her to reject any help, but unfortunately her growling stomach gave away one of Mamori’s problems. Hearing this, Orion offered to treat Mamori to a meal, and she, not remembering the last time she had a full meal, accepted the offer. While Mamori ate, Orion questioned where Mamori came from, only for Mamori to refuse to tell him. Upon asking things about Mamori’s family and where she was staying, Mamori could only say that she didn’t know where her family was and lied stating she didn’t have anywhere to go. Feeling sorry for her, Orion offered Mamori his place to stay for a while if she didn’t have anywhere else to go. Mamori was skeptical at first, but due to Orion seeming very genuine and not wanting to spend another night on the street, she agreed. Taking Mamori back to his home, Orion introduced her to Lunara, who was fine with the idea of this new stranger staying for a while, so long as she didn’t cause any trouble. Showing Mamori to her new room, Orion stated she could stay as long as she needed to, with Lunara doing various things to accommodate her. While Mamori was fine with the arrangement, it was upon seeing Luna and Faye welcome her that the thoughts of her old bullies and the various ridicule she endured returned in full force. It was here that Mamori continued on her former behavior, spending days on end behind the closed door of her own room, sitting there with only her thoughts and crippling fear keeping her door locked. Due to this behavior, Mamori wouldn’t come out unless it was absolutely necessary and wouldn’t so much as answer anyone who came to her door.
Everyday Lunara would deliver meals to Mamori’s door and tried to talk to her and see what was wrong, but the result was always the same as Mamori refused to answer back. Concerned for her new guest and not knowing what to do, Lunara decided it was best if Orion tried to talk to her, seeing as he was able to convince her to come home with him. Soon after delivering Mamori’s meals, Orion began getting results, even if they were minimal. At first, Mamori would only communicate with Orion through the door in short phrases, but it soon progressed to full conversations. Whenever Orion delivered food to Mamori, the two would briefly chat, with the little rat feeling more and more comfortable with him. It was soon after this that Mamori began opening up more and soon felt as ease enough to invite him in to chat with her face to face, with the door locked of course. Soon after, Orion felt it was time that Mamori meet the others of the house, but she was apprehensive about doing this. Orion stated he wouldn’t force her, but whenever she felt she was ready he would introduce her to the other members. After several weeks of mental preparation, Mamori informed Orion she would try to talk to the others of the house, so long as he was there. Over the following days, Mamori would ritualistically accompany Orion and get to know the other members of the house, with Luna and Faye being the most difficult challenge to tackle, but over time Mamori felt she could trust everyone, yet she still kept a few things secret such as where she ran away from and the ultimate reason why. These secrets still kept a firm hold on Mamori's mind and controlled her actions just like her fear. However, the kindness and attention that the entire household gave Mamori convinced her to take a leap of faith and tell someone, and it was the person she undoubtedly trusted the most.
One night Mamori got Orion and asked to talk to him. Sitting down with him, Mamori confessed why she was in the deshelved state he found her in upon first meeting. Stating that she ran away from her old boarding school because she was bullied and scared. When Orion asked why, Mamori's heart sank and she felt as if her world would crumble again after it was built back up; but after coming so far Mamori decided to gather herself and calmly explain. Explaining that she was bullied because she was different, Mamori explained how she was different and went as far as to reveal herself to Orion so he could truly understand. Welling up with tears at the worst-case scenario that played in her head, Mamori prepared for Orion's response. As she closed her eyes in preparation to be mocked or berated, Mamori only felt something warm wrap around her, only to open her eyes and see Orion embracing her, claiming that he didn't care and he accepted her regardless. These words hit Mamori like a wall of lead, causing her to shed tears of happiness, happy that there was someone that didn't look at her like an oddity. However, Mamori questioned whether or not Lunara and the others would still want her around, knowing her secret and that she ran away. Orion assured Mamori that she was safe and that there was no need to worry. That night Orion talked to Lunara and informed her of the things Mamori told him and what they should do. Lunara was in no way bothered by this but decided that a runaway shouldn't be staying with them, rather they should go to the boarding school and legitimately adopt Mamori so she would never have to worry about being taken away. Lunara talked to Luna and Faye about Mamori's situation, and both were just as accepting of it as she and Orion were, and with a unanimous decision, there was only one thing to do.
The next morning, Lunara called Mamori down for breakfast with everyone and made an announcement. Lunara told Mamori that everyone was aware that she was a runaway and that everyone knew about her condition, going further to say that they all loved and accepted her and wanted her to live with them. Hearing this thrilled Mamori but hearing about the condition attached made Mamori nervous. Lunara stated that they would have to back to the school in order to make the adoption official. Mamori recalled her painful memories from back at the school, stating she was unsure about going back due to her previous history with the other students. Lunara assured Mamori that she wouldn’t be alone this time and that her new family would protect her should anything go wrong. Hearing these words, Mamori calmed herself and decided to be brave and go back to her old boarding school, but this time she wouldn’t be alone in her endeavor. The next day, Mamori along with Lunara, her daughters, and Orion drove back to old boarding school, with the intent of bringing Mamori back as a true member of the family. With the drive taking a day or so, the group finally arrived at the boarding school, fully prepared to take Mamori back with them. As Mamori led the group to the head office, she was confronted by several girls she knew back when she attended school, who miraculously remembered Mamori and proceeded to mock her proclaiming their surprise that a “freak” like her came back. As Mamori began to tear up, Luna, Orion, and Faye stepped in and stood up for the rat, with Faye threatening the girls to back down or else they would be treated to a generous beatdown. The girls ran off, fearful of what Faye would do. Seeing this, Mamori was fully convinced that she could count on the people who took her in as she quickly led everyone to the head office where she introduced Lunara to the headmistress, who was thoroughly surprised to see the young rat again. Lunara discussed how Mamori was “found” and how she wanted to adopt her. The headmistress agreed, but after the paperwork was signed, she revealed that she was happy someone adopted Mamori. When Lunara asked why that was, the headmistress stated that the she heard about Mamori’s “condition” and stated that had they found her first, she would have promptly expelled the rat and sent her back to the orphanage in which she came from due to “not being what the school asked for”. Lunara immediately picked up on what the headmistress was “suggesting” and coldly asked what she was looking for, given that the school was for girls and Mamori fit the criteria. As the headmistress started to back pedal due to feeling Lunara’s growing ire, the mother wolf could not contain herself as she sent her pack out to chat with the head mistress. Even with the door closed, everyone outside could hear Lunara’s disapproval as she described the trials Mamori had to endure due to no one actually helping her and treating her like she was some sort of oddity, when there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. As Mamori listened to Lunara’s frustration, a smile crept along her face as she felt that the people who now cared for her, were the ones she could trust.
After traveling back home, Lunara embraced her new foster daughter and stated everything that she and the household would do for her; that she would no longer be alone or scared. The months that followed, Mamori was given her own room and belongings and soon her mental walls were quickly and systematically torn down while her self-esteem and security were built up just as quickly due to receiving encouragement and kindness from everyone around her. After so long of not feeling as if she belonged, Mamori finally found her place, and she couldn’t be happier!
Personality: Growing up with few people she could truly trust or depend on, Mamori was a very meek and awkward girl with a slightly skittish disposition. Mamori was soft spoken to the point that her voice rarely rose above a whisper and many of her feelings were built upon her insecurity and confusion with her body and the lack of information surrounding herself. Confusion, frustration, and anxiety were extremely common feelings for Mamori as she grew up believing that she was weird and an outcast. Not helping this was the treatment she suffered from both her peers and the authority figures who looked after her, as neither accepted her or took the time to fully understand her, instead labeling her as an oddity due to her interests and mannerisms. Mamori underwent various forms of abuse from those around her, from bullying from her peers, to disapproval and muted resentment from authority figures. This treatment caused Mamori to more or less avoid contact with others as she feared she would be made fun off or belittled. Reinforcing this feeling was due to the “friends” she made during her time in the orphanage and boarding school as they were quick to turn on her upon discovering how different she was. This negativity caused Mamori to feel as if she needed to apologize to others for being different, with the constant mocking weighting down on her psych. Internalizing much of the venom and hate thrown her way caused Mamori to develop an anti-social demeanor coupled with a strong self-loathing that did more damage than the bashing from those around her. This ultimately led to Mamori’s timid and depressed state, which only worsened as time went on. The few happy moments Mamori was able to experience were fleeting and when they were over made her feel worse than before. Feeling like an outcast and with no one to turn to, led Mamori to believe that she was truly alone in the world and that she would always be alone.
After finding her place and where she belonged, Mamori’s demeanor gradually started to even out, as she became much less anxious and reclusive, and while she still won’t go out of her way to talk to people she doesn’t know, she is able to effectively communicate without feeling fearful or unsure of herself. The kindness and acceptance she received from Orion and the Fenrus family helped stabilize Mamori’s mentality and her emotions, allowing her true personality to shine through her troubled past and her purer emotions to bloom forth. The love and support she received from her new family nurtured Mamori and caused her to blossom into the young lady she is today.
Now Mamori is a cheerful and substantially happy girl with a childlike enthusiasm to try everything the world has to offer. Mamori is very polite and well-mannered with a heart that has, miraculously recovered from the emotional scars due to the difficulties she faced in her younger years, allowing her to see that there are good in people in the world instead of having a negatively colored view of the world at large. Mamori does however, hold a small amount of resentment towards the people who made her feel as if she didn't belong or who have viciously mocked her for her interests because they didn’t seem “normal”. Yet, Mamori’s happiness has allowed her to put everything behind her so that she can enjoy her future. Mamori is far more social and outgoing than she was in the past and behaves in a normal fashion, interacting with those around her and partaking in the activities that others enjoy. However, her newfound freedom has allowed Mamori to discover her own interests and form various hobbies based on them, rarely getting bored with whatever she undertakes. Mamori’s hobbies range from video games, drawing, model building, figure collecting, and other activities of that nature. It can be argued that the reason for so many varied interests is Mamori’s way of making up for lost time given her previous unhappy and reclusive lifestyle.
Despite being able to talk and communicate casually with others, Mamori still has her awkward moments, but they are not as prevalent as they were in the past. The only times this awkwardness shows itself is when Mamori is dealing with people she does not know, but if the situation overwhelms her she may shut down or momentarily revert to her old soft-spoken behavior. Mamori actually enjoys conversations and whenever they involve anything she is savvy about, she displays confidence in whatever she’s talking about, being able to sometimes steer the topics of the conversation in her favor. Thanks to Faye, Mamori has gained a fair amount of confidence in herself and is able to somewhat stand up for herself should things get heated, but she still has much to learn in this regard.
Mamori is considerably smart as her intellect and knowledge show themselves frequently in how she speaks and behaves. When she was attending school, Mamori was a good student and was very focused on her school work, sometimes using her self-isolation as a way of bettering herself. Even now that she is no longer attending school, Mamori loves to increase her knowledge by researching things that either interest her or expanding on what she already knows, showing a scholarly thirst for knowledge. Mamori’s intellect has allowed her to pick up on things that may not be blatantly obvious or arrive at conclusions on her own without much help. A good example is when she gathered that her parents may have known something about how she would have developed given the name she was given as “Mamori” isn’t seen as a masculine name and leans more towards femininity. Even when Mamori partakes in her interests and hobbies, her knowledge can be seen as she can easily pick up on small tells and patterns in video games, as well as remembering various different combinations and puzzles thrown her way. Her penchant for puzzles and brain games makes her intellect most evident as she can solve various brain teasers and other such exercises in a startling amount of time, such as solving a complex puzzle Orion was working on as she was merely strolling by.
Undoubtedly, one of Mamori’s greatest feats has been the acceptance of herself. After receiving the acceptance and reassurance she wanted, Mamori has grown to truly accept her identity and her body, no longer viewing herself as an outcast. This can be proven by her attitude towards her body as she is no longer confused or frustrated by what she sees, in fact feeling quite comfortable in her own skin. What ultimately proves this is when Asteria offered to fully change Mamori, only for the latter to kindly decline, asking the question: why would she want to change what she was happy with. Despite this, Mamori isn’t eager to share this detail with those she doesn’t know and will continue to keep it a secret as she understands that there will be some who accept here, and there will be those who will not.
Through everything she has been through, Mamori embraces what the future may hold for her and looks forward with eager eyes.
As you see this little rat has been through so much and has come a long way! With all the characters in the roster I think it was about time this lovely lady got her time to shine! Thanks to
Nim-Nim for this adorable pic, I hope you enjoy and look forward to more pics of Mamori in the future!!
