Got sent to the moon and he promptly started making a meal of the whole thing. Mutagens will really do a number on one's appetite, it seems! Story and technical details are in the piece
Done for awesome
Charro the Colossal Charmander who provided the text in the image. Super fun to do, thanks again!

Old World Blues doesn't take place on the moon. Huge Spoilers ahead for the dlc so go play it first before reading cuz it's amazing.
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Big_MT
There is in game lore and evidence that point it's location near The Divide which is located on Earth. The reason it looks like a crater is because those idiot scientists vaporized the mountain that originally hid their facilities. Also 3 very important NPCs made it inside the facility on foot inside the Mojave Wasteland, so it couldn't have taken place on the moon. The satellite we run into was sent by the think tank in order to trap new test subjects as well as see if the world was really destroyed (more or less correct given the situation of Fallout as a whole, but incorrect due to survivors thanks to Vault-Tec)
Now this isn't saying it is IMPOSSIBLE to send peeps to the moon FROM Big MT, heck it's more than possible considering the cooky tech littered in that science bin (they DEFINITELY proved that possible with the transportalponder). But the fact is the Old World Blues DLC takes place on earth and not the moon.

I did point out it was possible in the end of my previous comment. It is more than possible. I was simply noting the dlc takes place on earth and not the moon. I too am waiting on a dlc that places a wastelander on a post apocalyptic moon base (possibly by Vault-Tec or Robco maybe even Enclave if you're listening Bethesda~<3)
Vault 10 must have been reeeaaal fun X'D unless your metabolism kept weight off and made you "skinny". Just shows how much biology can affect body mass and make some figures virtually impossible (if not incredibly difficult) to achieve and maintain. And seeing as he's alive, shows one CAN be both fat and healthy if given the proper sustenance (I'm assuming there were basic nutritional value in all that snacking)
Wait just one dang moment, it takes place near THE DIVIDE? Maaan, I could have sworn the whole thing took place inside of a gigantic moon crater located on the moon, with the forcefield keeping the player inside of Big MT being like an oxygen bubble. If you leave, you'd die regardless.
As for those important NPCs arriving -ON FOOT-, well... Sorry, didn't make that connection when I played through the DLC, I thought they arrived through the Transportalponder via teleportation, to what I had assumed was a moon base. Given the sci-fi scenery, the bizarre lighting, the fact the whole facility takes place inside of a gigantic crater.
Oh well, really adds a whole new perspective to the DLC now that I learn it's an Earthly location. On the other hand, I could still work with this "galactic vessel" from the picture description and make it somewhat lore-fitting, soooomewhat~
Thank you for the info by the way.

I honestly wouldn't put it past the think tank to try something like sending a fire lizard to space just to fatten him up to see what would happen (we have PLENTY of reasons they'd be crazy enough to try it that are literally walking around in both the Mohave and Big MT) but yes it's an earthly location. The field around the location is actually a fence that prevents disembodied organs from walking out and thus teleport them back to The Sink (try to leave twice for a surprise ;) )
the coloration is likely a type of scanner that identifies what's a disembodied organ from a full body. Big MT used to be an underground facility until the scientists dissentegrated the mountain and left a massive walled crater. Even random explorers find their way into Big MT and meet...well you seen what those kooks did with lobotomites :v a good majority of them may have been wastelanders before entering Big MT
Also the Cazadore and Nightstalkers found in the Mojave Wasteland (especially on the western side of the map where the divide and big Mt are located beyond the border) were originally bred in Big MT and had escaped and clearly reproduced out of control (further hinting an earthbound location)
Again I did travel the entirety of Big MT (still Haven't found every single secret yet) and surprised by what all the Think Tank had laying around. Also the unethical experimentation, the ruined chronometers, and memory jacking of the think tank personnel. Who's to say they DIDN'T experiment with obesity somewhere in that missing memory? So it's definitely possible they sent some peeps to the moon for some cooky experiments.
And no probs for the info. I really enjoy digging into the lore. And you CAN find evidence of those 3 important NPCs having stayed at Big MT if you search every nook and cranny. If you played other Add-ons, you'll know who they are and why they are the way they are when you meet them face to face.
You can tell I'm a fan of the franchise from these long comments of mine X'D
