This is Grandpa Bowie. "Oppa Bowie" in german. He was a very handsome cockatiel, though his feathers had been cut (in a way, that he never learnt to fly) and his feet were wrong, so that he couldn't even walk properly. Also, he had respiratory problems, but nevertheless he was a happy boy.
I got him on 10th January 2016, the day David Bowie died, hence the name (plus he was a cute little weird old man who loved to sing and hiss :D). He had been held in a cage for something around 25-30 years I was told. He lived with an old granny before, but when she died, the neighbors took him in - and didn't care at all for him. So he spent some years not really knowing what it's like to be a bird.
When I took him in, I set him free. He could roam around freely in all of my rooms, poop wherever he wanted and I gave him good foods and fresh water everyday, as well as a trip to the vet.
In summer 2016 I got him a friend called Charlie (who was 25), with whom he always sang together happily. He loved also to just listen to Charlie singing him to sleep.
When the vet took the ring from his foot, I got to know that he was actually from around 1984, my birthyear. Sadly, Bowie died this year, 364 days after I got him, one day, before David Bowie had been dead for one year.
He didn't seem to have a painful death - happened in his sleep. I'm thankful for the time I had with him and I hope he was happy here, too. But from the looks of it, he absolutely was. :)
