Eh our ancestors managed to do OK I assume, by virtue of the fact we're here lol. I don't know, me personally, I've never found an animal I'm inherently afraid of, but I've met many that are afraid of spiders for some reason.
To be fair, based on the size of the dragon and the wind turbine, that has to be a really HUGE spider.

I think the fear of spiders is more because it's a body type we aren't used to seeing in creatures.
More than four limbs? Check.
Skitters about in unsettling ways? Check.
Strange body shape? Check.
Can be rather aggressive? Check.
If our minds cannot put it together quickly, it causes an instant fear reaction and spiders, unless you're used to them totally fall into that category.

Oh my God!!!!! XD This reminds me of when I was helping some friends of mine lift bleachers and putting rubber mats underneath for the Special Olympics! Suddenly, I hear Peggy shout "Mouse!" and she leaps about a foot in the air and runs a short distance. We look and it's a two inch long spider.
I bug her EVERY TIME I SEE HER about that! "Hey Peggy, see any mice recently?" XD

As an Australian, I can say this reaction is COMPLETELY justified.

Also, Huntsman Spiders are a common enough occurrence in my house during the summer that I have a single shoe specially set aside for them.
It's a left shoe. The right one had the sole fall off.
And, I get Wolf Spiders. They're almost identical to the Huntsman, except they have white patterns on their backs and are classified alongside the Red-back, Sydney Funnel-web and White-tail.
