This is actually the first time I EVER drew Sally, I traced her a couple of times when I was younger, but I wasn't good enough to match the comic's style back then.
I got Sonic the Hedgehog, the complete series on DVD in the mail today. This was one of my favorite shows when I was seven, and it has held up shockingly well up to now (the only part of it that feels dated is Sonic's early 90's slang, which is just hilarious today) I think my favorite part about this series box is that the artwork on the disks and in the cases is made by fans! What's more most of the fan art is actually BETTER than the official art on the main box. I would really recommend going to amazon.com and ordering this, even with tax and shipping it only came out to 20 bucks, and the entire box set is only about the size of a standard DVD box so you can put it right on your shelf.

Now I've pointed this out in arguments before and I'm not arguing it here, But Sally is a Sega creation made by the same people that made Tails, Knuckles, the seventh emerald, the master emerald, angel island, the super forms, and the original robot sonics(in other words the people that made the series a multi billion dollar industry). Her first Appearance is in the story crated by SoA after the release of the first game (released in NA first BTW) Shortly after they made several Concepts based on this fiction, and eventually licenced it to DIC, Archi, and Fleetway. Fleetway was the first to redesign her from Segas model mainly just giving her different coloring, Archie and DIC also redesigned her (as well as the other characters, Johney lightfoot became a girl and half robot = bunnie, Joe sushi = Rotor) and made her a princess, taking away her dress and tail. Archie was able to put the comic out first even though the tv series was already in production, her blonde hair wasn't liked much so it was changed. DIC put out it's pilot episode, they didn't like the designs very much at all and decides to take a darker more realistic approach on everything, making Sallys next to final design. She was used in Sega World theme parks (Sydney) and in much more media than she is given credit for. Sonic #47-50 Archie tried to kill her to bring the series closer to the Japan story line but Sega and Fan outrage put a stop to that. The reason she hasn't shown up anywhere else yet is because Sega of Japan(the guys who have run the series from multibillion dollar high end to barely scrapping by back of the shelf material) is still pissed at STI(SOA) for outshining them and bringing massive amounts of games and fans to the series AND coming up with a much more accepted and popular storyline than they ever could when they were developing the cd game.
Now enough with the history lesson, I too feel that the SatAm a series was left with massive amounts of untapped potential that Sega needs to turn to and exploit. It's still not too late to write in these elements or to tap into the raw potential that lays before them, Just write in that Sonic simply goes home, since he hasn't been there since the first game, then they can begin to tap the great writing and story of the much grander SatAm series where Robotnik was more of a cold hearted ruthless villain rather than a dumpy, comedic relief, fool.
What made SatAm great wasn't the fact that is had Sally so much as it is the fact that it wasn't a childish happy go lucky light hearted world that if sonic failed he could try try again later and succeed with the same tactics he used before.

OK, Spyoth said much that I was going to say.
I WILL state that had they carried out their intention of killing off Sally in #47-50 , I would have cancelled my sub then & there. SHE was the reason I started in the first place. She may have called off the engagement to Sonic in #133-4, but already by then there were far too many redefining of concepts, changing of direction, too many characters, too many storylines... for me to put up with. I quit then.

Krazy Kat lasted as long as it did, was that the paper publisher loved it. Once Herriman died, he knew nobody else could duplicate Herriman's genius, and so he dropped the strip once the reserve of strips was used up.
Likewise, the Sonic comic still runs, because Sega and Nintendo are still creating Sonic games. Should the public lose interest in the computer games, the comic will come to an end.

I don't think they'll stop making Sonic games anytime soon, but I think even if they did the comic can stand on its own, after all its more based on the cartoon than the games, and ran strong during the space between the genesis and dreamcast eras when there were few games coming out, and managed to withstand the dark year 2006 (when we got a bad port on GBA AND the infamous Sonic '06)
SaAM and Archie are the reasons I became a Sonic fan. It expanded the lore of the games and gave us more compelling and developed characters like the Freedom Fighters. The fact that Sega continues to ignore 25 years of Archie's existence and squander any opportunity to profit from it continues to baffle me. But who knows. Theres a huge demand for Sally with the #Rally4Sally movement. The Sonic Prime creators have stated theyre fans of SatAM and Archie. The companies involved with Prime OWN the characters and cartoon series. Plus theres numerous fan projects like Archie Sonic Online, Sea3on Animated, KNOTHOLE, and so much more. The spirit of SatAM lives on in the fanbase, which in turn should convince Sega theres still a demand.
