Oh, Vixyy! This is fantastic! I loved every part of this! And to make things more heartwarming, it's mainly told as a story from grandparent-to-granddaughter! But it did have a sad part in it too....so I guess now I know that not everything ends on a light tone.
I knew that you'd have this in mind. Thank you so much for writing this!

Beautiful story, Vixxy. The way the grandfather described things, I gradually became aware that he spoke from personal experience. It reminded me of Southey:
"Why 'twas a very wicked thing!"
Said little Welhelmine;
"Nay—nay, my little girl," quoth he,
"It was a famous victory."
Damned Onion Ninjas . . .

The framing device is excellent as always and has your paw prints all over it. I wasn't expecting Robin's death, though I knew something was going to happen from the opening quote. The story itself brought to mind both Gettysburg as well as a novella that I read years back titled 'I Had Seen Castles'.
As for the ending, it was nice and bittersweet and certainly has the heart that is present in many of your pieces.
