The fourth part of the new "Hack Rat" stories, in which the two trapped heroes has a crossover with another famous gaming duo.

Things had been beyond crazy lately for Penny and Tommy, as classic video games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and freaking Metroids were "normal" for the two of them since they had been ending up in a neverending limbo of 8-bit hell.
They've been having the bad luck of getting separated multiple times in these games that they would end up in. To avert this, whenever they both witnessed the glowing light into the unknown, they quickly went to hold each others hands hoping that this would keep them close together once they would emerge into whatever was awaiting them.
Once the light went away from their most recent trip, they both saw how they were stilling holding each others hands, meaning that at least they didn't have to fear becoming separated this time.
Looking around they saw that they were now in some random jungle, and when looking at each other they noticed how they were both dressed in army pants, boots, and bandanas. Tommy's attire was all blue and Penny's in all red. Tommy was also completely topless, while Penny luckily had two very filled up 7.62 bullet bandolier strapped over each of her shoulders like an “X” to help cover up her boobs. Surrounding them were stock piles of ammo boxes, grenades, and a rack with a few M60 “War Pig” machine guns.
"Oh, cool! We must be in Contra!" Tommy said and shoot out a few machine gun bullets for fun.
“Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!!” Penny shouted before taking off like a crazed maniac and shooting her gun! She even reached for a second machine gun from the rack and fired both guns at the same time! ”30 lives and full akimbo?! Come at me, suckers!”, taunted Pennt as she rushed about the jungle with both guns blazing!
"Oh boy. Seems like Penny is taking this a lot more bloody serious then I was expecting." Tommy said as he quickly tried to follow after her.
Feeling like she was Rambo in video game, Penny was just running like a maniac as she shot down every single enemy solider and war machine that she could aim for without even reloading her guns once! And upon acquiring the “S” power-up to spread out her bullet trajectory she was having a real blast playing this “game”!
At one point there was one enemy bullet that was almost reaching her so Penny jumped out of the way to avoid it, and that resulted in the obese mouse girl to suddenly make a complete double somersault in the air before landing!
"Whoa! Like, I felt so light and agile doing that! Cool beans!" Penny said very excited as she then continued on doing endless somersault jumps, while also firing her weapon a lot at the same time!
Poor Tommy was trying his hardest to keep up, but when you have a girl that is more then twice as tall as him (and with the help of videogame logic isn't able to feel all that extra weight holding her back) it was a pretty hard thing to do. (Especially when having to try and also jump over all the corpses of enemies that was being left behind!)
At one point, Penny tried being a bit less "trigger happy" with her actions, as she tried to dodge down and lay flat onto the ground as she was firing against a turret machine. This however didn't fully work out as her big butt proved to be and easy target, so the turret managed to send one bullet that went right between her buttcheeks and splitting the seat of her pants apart!
This didn't go unnoticed by Penny (given that her butt was now feeling burnt like she had accidentally been sitting on a turned on stove plate!), as she said "Screw it!!!" to being sneaky, and basically jumped onto the turret as she discharged two point-blank “S”-shots into it and destroying it instantly!
Tommy had finally been able to catch up to her, as a now very exhausted Penny pretty calmly said, "(pant, pant) There you are Tommy! Was starting to wonder what had happened to you."
Just feeling happy that his girl seemed pretty "normal" now, Tommy just accepted this work out of running he had been forced to do and made up a quick excuse of, "I...had to tie the laces on my boots before I could follow you."
"Right. And I almost 'shawt in the buht-awks'.” remarked Penny in her “Forest Gump” voice before she turned to show Tommy her backside where her buttcheeks bulged through the middle of the split.
“Meow...” Tommy mused. “At least I'll have something to look forward to when you get ahead of me from now on.”
“(sigh) Whatever.” said Penny rolling her eyes.
They both looked over and saw how the first level boss was awaiting them at the other side of a bridge. It was just a big metallic gate with a couple of cannons, and a big lock mechanism that needed to be shot at enough times to force it to open. Penny and Tommy took aim at the boss obstacle from their distant position, but the bridge suddenly exploded, and now the heroes found themselves in a much more complicated task.
The boss was to far away for their bullets to reach, and looking down they saw that there was no cliff sides or anything to grab and climb to reach up to it if they tried to jump.
"Uugh! No fair!" Penny shouted as she got really frustrated with not being able to get any further now.
"I can't shoot at it from here, and I'm to big to jump over there on my own. So what would I do...?" Penny asked herself before then seeing Tommy looking just as clueless as she was.
"I've got it!" Penny said and lifted Tommy up and tossed him over the roaring river like a big cat comet screeching in the air!
Flying uncontrollably Tommy was in such a state of panic that he didn't know what to do first, but upon seeing the boss , the brave cat lifted up his gun and started to fire off as many shots as he could!
“Eat my Homing Missiles, scrubs!” shouted Tommy!
First he made sure both cannons were destroyed so he didn't have to worry about getting shot, and then he just held that trigger as he sent an endless ray of rockets into the main target of the enemy until it all exploded and fell apart, leaving an entrance now for him to enter once he landed.
Turning back to look at Penny, she told him that "If the game physics are true in this game, both of us will appear in the next level when at least one of us leaves here!" Believing his girlfriend's words, Tommy did so as the classic Contra victory music was playing for their success.
As they entered the second stage, there was a slight change in perspective, as now the entire thing was about them going inwards toward the centre, instead of from left to right.
Still it involved more of the same stuff from before with enemies needing to get shoot and laser cannons to blast apart, that also worked as the locks to take them to the next part of the level.
Once they forced the first big door open Tommy and Penny was greeted for a huge surprise as instead of more enemy soldiers to fight, their opponents seemed to be a lot more bulky and...frog-like in appearance?
"Whoa! What kind of a soldiers are you?!" Tommy asked confused as the two beings came out from the shadows, and was revealed to be someone very familiar.
While both of the strange reptiles was wearing kneecaps with spikes on them, one of the two was also sporting similar looking armbands, while the other was wearing some pretty cool shades.
"I'm Rash." Said the first one, with the other one adding in "I'm Zitz." before they both together then shouted, "And together we are, THE BATTLETOADS!!!"
"But who are you two?" Zitz then asked, with Rash clutching his fists and asking, "Are you two working for that Bucky O'Hare guy?"
"Actually, I am much more of a Star Fox fan, but no, we're not.” Penny explained. “We're just two trapped souls seeking to beat the game and get ourselves out of here."
"Wait...what game?" Zitz asked as the two Battletoads scratched their heads in utter confusion.
Realising that she was almost about to blow their minds on their whole existence as video game characters Penny tried to quickly save the situation by correcting herself and say instead, "Sorry! I meant...beat the boss?"
Zitz still looked as confused as ever as he just asked "What boss?!", then he suddenly got a pat on the shoulder from his brother who said, "Say bro. Isn't that big mouse girl kind of big and tall enough to be some kind of boss herself?!"
"Now that you say it bro..." Zitz said as both he and Rash took and looked much closer at just how much beef and fat that Penny was packing in her "Sumo Rambo" body, before having Zitz tell his brother, "She does look like she could be the big sister to that annoying Blag dude we had to kick the butt of a few times!"
"What?! Oh no, no, no, no, no. This is not what you think it is." Penny tried to quickly explain herself, but the two Battletoads had already made up their mind, as they told her to shut up, and to not try and trick them anymore.
"Zip it, mousey!”, said the toads. “We've exterminated a lot of vermin like you and we'll send you to join them and your little pussycat boyfriend, too!!"
"SAY WHAT NOW?!" Tommy asked out in shock, as Penny on the other hand just let out a deep sigh in annoyance before saying "Oh boy. Here we go then."
Letting out big shouts of "manliness" the two toads came charging towards Penny and Tommy!
And as they came running towards them both of the two Contra fighters noticed how parts of the Toad's bodies was changing itself as they were aiming for attack. Zitz was seen making his fists huge, while Rash was turning his feet into big boots to kick around! The force of their attacks were enough to disarm them both of their machine guns, so they had to rely on hand-to-hand combat if they wanted to survive!
Tommy was being given a hard kick from Rash, which sent him flying straight into some vent pipes, knocking a few of them apart and landing with him on the floor.
As Penny got distracted from watching Tommy getting beaten she didn't have time to react when Zitz jumped at her and buried his mega fists deep into her belly!...only problem was that because Penny's obese gut was so big and thick, Zitz's fist actually sunk right into her rolls and got stuck!
Getting back onto his feet, Tommy saw Rash coming at him for another kick, and the cat quickly took up one of the broken down pipes to wack in the face with a loud ping!
"That's it, Tommy! Give him all you got!" Penny shouted at her boyfriend, before she looked back down at Zitz who had look on his face that just screamed "Please, don't hurt me!" Penny gave a wicked smile as she sent her own two big fists into the sides of the dumb toad's head, knocking him out cold before letting his hands free from her belly flab!
Rash wasn't doing much better against Tommy and his made pipe bashing, but things ended up a lot worse for him as he could feel Penny fat butt pressing up behind him and cutting him off from trying to escape the fight.
Tommy then shouted "Now!" and jumped out of the way, before Penny then came and did a Flying Peach with her rear into the nearest wall, and almost squashing him flat as a pancake!
With both Battletoads now beaten and placed together next to each other in the middle of the room, Penny and Tommy wanted to know just how to win this game.
"What do we need to do in order to find the one in charge to beat?" Both Penny and Tommy asked out, and the toads was about to talk when the sound of a voice saying "Detonations are all set and ready." could be heard!
Looking around the four heroes saw how some enemy soldiers had been setting up some bombs out in the corners of the room, and before any of them could react they all went off, sending the two teams to fall down into a deep pit into the unknown!
After falling for what felt like an eternity Penny and Tommy along with Rash and Zitz woke up to find they were currently very far underground, with the exit back to the surface area working as a light up in the sky.
Things didn't get much better when they noticed that they had been incredibly lucky to land onto one of several platforms floating around in what was a river of lava!
"Okay, this is REALLY bad!" Tommy said as Penny asked if the Battletoads happen to know a way on how to get out of this place.
"There is a rock formation at the end there that looks a bit like a big ramp. We could use that to help us get back up there." Rash suggested, which Zitz pointed out was a great idea..."But we also need something big and powerful to help build up enough speed to send us up there."
Then almost like out of the blue (But more from the hole in the roof) two big jet powered scooters came falling down to join the trapped group, and a pretty surprised Rash then said, “Cool! We're getting outta here in style!"
Once having both jets ready for take off the group mobilized so that both things was being driven by the Battletoads (Given how they had previous experience with things like this), and Penny & Tommy hopped on as their back seat passengers.
"Ready?" Zitz asked before the whole place started to rumble, and huge stone spikes from the ceiling was starting to fall down towards them!
"Go!!!" Rash shouted as both jets took off, just when two big spikes came and pierced the place they had just been standing on!
What followed them was very wild and insane ride, as the two Battletoads had to constantly swerve and avoid oncoming obstacles, and the ongoing threat of the earthquake making the lava rise!
Neither toad had it easy driving as Tommy made for such a light weight that he many times almost ended up falling off his bumpy vehicle, and Penny was weighting so much that it gave the toad driving her a real challenge to keep up with the same speed as his brother.
"Man! And here I thought that Pimple was a heavy dude to drive around!" said thought to himself as he revved his ride to the limit.
As they started to drive up the steep hill that was ending up pointing straight up into the sky they could see how the lava was starting to rise, making more important than ever to make this jump!
Shifting to a higher gear, the two toads put the pedal to the metal as they gave their all as they took off into the air!
In that instant, they could still feel the incredibly hot lava in their back, while also seeing the light of freedom getting closer, and closer, and...
With a big "THUD!!!" both heavy machines landed onto what was remaining of the floor in the room they had been in before, as the group quickly rushed into the door to the next room and closed it shut!
From behind they could hear the commotion of the lava hitting the surface and filling up the room, and they all just were happy to still be alive.
“Wooo!” shouted Rash. “That was awesome!”
“Yeah, and no seatbelts needed.” snarked Tommy, shaken from holding on tight for so long.
“Thank you, you two.” said Penny. “I guess we're all on the same side now?”
"Yeah.” said Zitz. “You two have proven to be very trustworthy alleys to our mission. You wouldn't happen to know who or what the, uh, head honcho is here, do you?”
As the group of four reached into the next room it was like entering into a whole different world, as the previous military base now looked like the depths of an alien cave!
And no more had the group started to wonder what kind of monster this place would hold before they got to see the answer coming down from the top!
It was the legendary Red Falcon boss from Contra, but something was different about it. Instead of bearing a striking resemblance to the Xenomorph from the "Alien" films and being red and sporting horns like the devil himself, this version had a green colour scale to it, added with big round ears, a couple of it's fangs being a bit longer then the rest (a bit like buck tooth), and two creepy looking eyes starring at them. (one of which was looking very bloodshot.)
"Oh god! It's even more hideous then I could ever imagine!" Rash and Zitz said as Tommy and Penny did recognize this special "re-skin" version of the Boss enemy.
"Hack Rat!" Penny and Tommy both shouted out as the monstrous form of him let out a mocking laughter. “Deh-heh-hurr! GOOdIE, gOOdIE! I gEt tO kIll my twO mOst swOrn EnEmIEs... AND tEh hErOEs Of OnE Of tEh mOst HARDEST an' WORST GAMMS I EvEr plAyEd!!”
“Okay...” Zitz commented. “This is just getting over my head...”
"Hey! Not so long ago you said that I was the most beautiful girl you'll ever known!" Penny said back, which made the Hack Rat Xenomorph thing look a bit spineless for a moment.
"Well, I... meet another girl while you were trapped in here. Yeah! That's how it went." Hack Rat said lying, which Tommy replied sarcastically, "Yeah, in the form of another JPEG or MP4 file on your hard drive. Am I right?”
"RAGH!!! DOEsn't mAttEr! YOO wIll All dIE nOw!" Hack Rat said, but left one last remark, “By tEh wAy. DOOblE DrAgOn wAs a lOt bEttEr thAn yEr BROKEN N.E.S. gAmE!!”
The Hack Rat/Red Falcon hybrid then unleashed a smaller army of alien bugs to help defend him (finding out a bit to late that the "Red Falcon" boss itself had no real attacks besides biting, and only if a player would be stupid enough to walk that close to it in the first place).
“Oh, crap!” Tommy panicked. “We can't take them out all at once without our guns! We're gonna die!”
“Oh, you mean these?” Rash asked as he tossed Penny and Tommy their machine guns. “We thought they'd come in handy later when fighting with our fists wouldn't be enough!”
“Oh, thank you!” said Penny. “I'd kiss you guys, but you know. Warts?”
“Here they come!” shouted Zitz. “Shoot em' up! We'll take 'em on from the front!”
A sea of alien enemies came in a huge creepy-crawly wave as both the Battletoads and the Contra players used all of their might and artillery to fully take in this massive attack! Zitz and Rash held them off up front while Penny and Tommy provided cover fire to soften up the oncoming horde!
As the struggle continued, the four heroes lined up like a square to cover each side. But then Penny noticed how the other three formed it more to a triangle.
"We can keep them all busy Penny, while you go in and give that Hack Rat a real blast!" Tommy said to her while adding, "Besides. He did dare say you weren't beautiful any longer."
With this motivation Penny waited for an opening before then taking off against the platform closest to the Red Falcon boss, jump off from it, and while in the middle of the air aimed her gun and started sending a whole series of hits into the defenceless Hack Rat!
It was a pretty gory attack as the Xenomorph/Rat hybrid started to leak lots of green blood, and pretty soon got snapped off from it's suspending in the roof and crashed into the floor!
There was a brief victory for the heroes before it all started to shake again like before, and this time the Battletoads noticed how they themselves also was starting to fade away into electronic pixel tiles.
"So we were just a game after all?" Rash asked as Zitz said, "Seems like so bro."
Looking over at Penny and Tommy they still felt proud over what they had accomplished together, as they saluted their fellow fighters.
But the solemn moment was short-lived, for what remained of the Red Falcon/Hack Rat creature was still alive! A giant brain, pale green like a wad of chewing gum throbbed in “thought” as it detached itself from the stump of it's neck and levitated over the shocked Penny and Tommy ominously!
The brain's eye's lurched forth, staring down at the two and Hack Rat's voice boomed: “Only I hAvE tEh brAIns tO sEnd yOO grIndErs tO tEh nExt wOrld! D'heh-hurr! Get It?! GET IT?! It's A clUE!!”
But before Penny and Tommy could process what the brain was implying, they soon found themselves once again falling through the never ending space of nothing!
As they were falling Penny and Tommy could both agree that while they didn't fully enjoy having to first fight against the Battletoads, they did really start to miss them now as they had made for some really great partners to fight with.
Soon enough, however, as much as Hack Rat was their insufferable, reoccurring nemesis, Penny and Tommy would soon find allies with more familiar video game characters. Now who could they be? Perhaps the brief allusion to Star Fox may be a viable clue...?

"Zip it, mousey!”, said the toads. “We've exterminated a lot of vermin like you and we'll send you to join them and your little pussycat boyfriend, too!!"
"SAY WHAT NOW?!" Tommy asked out in shock, as Penny on the other hand just let out a deep sigh in annoyance before saying "Oh boy. Here we go then."
Letting out big shouts of "manliness" the two toads came charging towards Penny and Tommy!
And as they came running towards them both of the two Contra fighters noticed how parts of the Toad's bodies was changing itself as they were aiming for attack. Zitz was seen making his fists huge, while Rash was turning his feet into big boots to kick around! The force of their attacks were enough to disarm them both of their machine guns, so they had to rely on hand-to-hand combat if they wanted to survive!
Tommy was being given a hard kick from Rash, which sent him flying straight into some vent pipes, knocking a few of them apart and landing with him on the floor.
As Penny got distracted from watching Tommy getting beaten she didn't have time to react when Zitz jumped at her and buried his mega fists deep into her belly!...only problem was that because Penny's obese gut was so big and thick, Zitz's fist actually sunk right into her rolls and got stuck!
Getting back onto his feet, Tommy saw Rash coming at him for another kick, and the cat quickly took up one of the broken down pipes to wack in the face with a loud ping!
"That's it, Tommy! Give him all you got!" Penny shouted at her boyfriend, before she looked back down at Zitz who had look on his face that just screamed "Please, don't hurt me!" Penny gave a wicked smile as she sent her own two big fists into the sides of the dumb toad's head, knocking him out cold before letting his hands free from her belly flab!
Rash wasn't doing much better against Tommy and his made pipe bashing, but things ended up a lot worse for him as he could feel Penny fat butt pressing up behind him and cutting him off from trying to escape the fight.
Tommy then shouted "Now!" and jumped out of the way, before Penny then came and did a Flying Peach with her rear into the nearest wall, and almost squashing him flat as a pancake!
With both Battletoads now beaten and placed together next to each other in the middle of the room, Penny and Tommy wanted to know just how to win this game.
"What do we need to do in order to find the one in charge to beat?" Both Penny and Tommy asked out, and the toads was about to talk when the sound of a voice saying "Detonations are all set and ready." could be heard!
Looking around the four heroes saw how some enemy soldiers had been setting up some bombs out in the corners of the room, and before any of them could react they all went off, sending the two teams to fall down into a deep pit into the unknown!
After falling for what felt like an eternity Penny and Tommy along with Rash and Zitz woke up to find they were currently very far underground, with the exit back to the surface area working as a light up in the sky.
Things didn't get much better when they noticed that they had been incredibly lucky to land onto one of several platforms floating around in what was a river of lava!
"Okay, this is REALLY bad!" Tommy said as Penny asked if the Battletoads happen to know a way on how to get out of this place.
"There is a rock formation at the end there that looks a bit like a big ramp. We could use that to help us get back up there." Rash suggested, which Zitz pointed out was a great idea..."But we also need something big and powerful to help build up enough speed to send us up there."
Then almost like out of the blue (But more from the hole in the roof) two big jet powered scooters came falling down to join the trapped group, and a pretty surprised Rash then said, “Cool! We're getting outta here in style!"
Once having both jets ready for take off the group mobilized so that both things was being driven by the Battletoads (Given how they had previous experience with things like this), and Penny & Tommy hopped on as their back seat passengers.
"Ready?" Zitz asked before the whole place started to rumble, and huge stone spikes from the ceiling was starting to fall down towards them!
"Go!!!" Rash shouted as both jets took off, just when two big spikes came and pierced the place they had just been standing on!
What followed them was very wild and insane ride, as the two Battletoads had to constantly swerve and avoid oncoming obstacles, and the ongoing threat of the earthquake making the lava rise!
Neither toad had it easy driving as Tommy made for such a light weight that he many times almost ended up falling off his bumpy vehicle, and Penny was weighting so much that it gave the toad driving her a real challenge to keep up with the same speed as his brother.
"Man! And here I thought that Pimple was a heavy dude to drive around!" said thought to himself as he revved his ride to the limit.
As they started to drive up the steep hill that was ending up pointing straight up into the sky they could see how the lava was starting to rise, making more important than ever to make this jump!
Shifting to a higher gear, the two toads put the pedal to the metal as they gave their all as they took off into the air!
In that instant, they could still feel the incredibly hot lava in their back, while also seeing the light of freedom getting closer, and closer, and...
With a big "THUD!!!" both heavy machines landed onto what was remaining of the floor in the room they had been in before, as the group quickly rushed into the door to the next room and closed it shut!
From behind they could hear the commotion of the lava hitting the surface and filling up the room, and they all just were happy to still be alive.
“Wooo!” shouted Rash. “That was awesome!”
“Yeah, and no seatbelts needed.” snarked Tommy, shaken from holding on tight for so long.
“Thank you, you two.” said Penny. “I guess we're all on the same side now?”
"Yeah.” said Zitz. “You two have proven to be very trustworthy alleys to our mission. You wouldn't happen to know who or what the, uh, head honcho is here, do you?”
As the group of four reached into the next room it was like entering into a whole different world, as the previous military base now looked like the depths of an alien cave!
And no more had the group started to wonder what kind of monster this place would hold before they got to see the answer coming down from the top!
It was the legendary Red Falcon boss from Contra, but something was different about it. Instead of bearing a striking resemblance to the Xenomorph from the "Alien" films and being red and sporting horns like the devil himself, this version had a green colour scale to it, added with big round ears, a couple of it's fangs being a bit longer then the rest (a bit like buck tooth), and two creepy looking eyes starring at them. (one of which was looking very bloodshot.)
"Oh god! It's even more hideous then I could ever imagine!" Rash and Zitz said as Tommy and Penny did recognize this special "re-skin" version of the Boss enemy.
"Hack Rat!" Penny and Tommy both shouted out as the monstrous form of him let out a mocking laughter. “Deh-heh-hurr! GOOdIE, gOOdIE! I gEt tO kIll my twO mOst swOrn EnEmIEs... AND tEh hErOEs Of OnE Of tEh mOst HARDEST an' WORST GAMMS I EvEr plAyEd!!”
“Okay...” Zitz commented. “This is just getting over my head...”
"Hey! Not so long ago you said that I was the most beautiful girl you'll ever known!" Penny said back, which made the Hack Rat Xenomorph thing look a bit spineless for a moment.
"Well, I... meet another girl while you were trapped in here. Yeah! That's how it went." Hack Rat said lying, which Tommy replied sarcastically, "Yeah, in the form of another JPEG or MP4 file on your hard drive. Am I right?”
"RAGH!!! DOEsn't mAttEr! YOO wIll All dIE nOw!" Hack Rat said, but left one last remark, “By tEh wAy. DOOblE DrAgOn wAs a lOt bEttEr thAn yEr BROKEN N.E.S. gAmE!!”
The Hack Rat/Red Falcon hybrid then unleashed a smaller army of alien bugs to help defend him (finding out a bit to late that the "Red Falcon" boss itself had no real attacks besides biting, and only if a player would be stupid enough to walk that close to it in the first place).
“Oh, crap!” Tommy panicked. “We can't take them out all at once without our guns! We're gonna die!”
“Oh, you mean these?” Rash asked as he tossed Penny and Tommy their machine guns. “We thought they'd come in handy later when fighting with our fists wouldn't be enough!”
“Oh, thank you!” said Penny. “I'd kiss you guys, but you know. Warts?”
“Here they come!” shouted Zitz. “Shoot em' up! We'll take 'em on from the front!”
A sea of alien enemies came in a huge creepy-crawly wave as both the Battletoads and the Contra players used all of their might and artillery to fully take in this massive attack! Zitz and Rash held them off up front while Penny and Tommy provided cover fire to soften up the oncoming horde!
As the struggle continued, the four heroes lined up like a square to cover each side. But then Penny noticed how the other three formed it more to a triangle.
"We can keep them all busy Penny, while you go in and give that Hack Rat a real blast!" Tommy said to her while adding, "Besides. He did dare say you weren't beautiful any longer."
With this motivation Penny waited for an opening before then taking off against the platform closest to the Red Falcon boss, jump off from it, and while in the middle of the air aimed her gun and started sending a whole series of hits into the defenceless Hack Rat!
It was a pretty gory attack as the Xenomorph/Rat hybrid started to leak lots of green blood, and pretty soon got snapped off from it's suspending in the roof and crashed into the floor!
There was a brief victory for the heroes before it all started to shake again like before, and this time the Battletoads noticed how they themselves also was starting to fade away into electronic pixel tiles.
"So we were just a game after all?" Rash asked as Zitz said, "Seems like so bro."
Looking over at Penny and Tommy they still felt proud over what they had accomplished together, as they saluted their fellow fighters.
But the solemn moment was short-lived, for what remained of the Red Falcon/Hack Rat creature was still alive! A giant brain, pale green like a wad of chewing gum throbbed in “thought” as it detached itself from the stump of it's neck and levitated over the shocked Penny and Tommy ominously!
The brain's eye's lurched forth, staring down at the two and Hack Rat's voice boomed: “Only I hAvE tEh brAIns tO sEnd yOO grIndErs tO tEh nExt wOrld! D'heh-hurr! Get It?! GET IT?! It's A clUE!!”
But before Penny and Tommy could process what the brain was implying, they soon found themselves once again falling through the never ending space of nothing!
As they were falling Penny and Tommy could both agree that while they didn't fully enjoy having to first fight against the Battletoads, they did really start to miss them now as they had made for some really great partners to fight with.
Soon enough, however, as much as Hack Rat was their insufferable, reoccurring nemesis, Penny and Tommy would soon find allies with more familiar video game characters. Now who could they be? Perhaps the brief allusion to Star Fox may be a viable clue...?
