House Rowan was a cadet house of House Todde, founded by a member of the female line of House Todde named Rhonwyn Todde, after the death of her husband and prior to the birth of their first son. Not wishing to remarry, her father, King Howell, granted his daughter lands and titles. The House adopted the name Rhonwyn, however the Miercinians changed it to Rowan, most likely through poor spelling and understanding of Tirgish.
