"Max, Lauren, Where the heck are you?" Firefight shouted over the coms, "I got wounded here and something's wrong with Circuit!"
"We're pinned sir," Lauren shouted, "As people retreated they came in from all sides!" A shot just missed her head, and another chipped her ice wall "You're on your own, we're stuck with troops all over us and trying to make a path back to the APCs."
"Just keep looking after the wounded." Max said from cover, "I've got the insurgents." Then he stepped out and fired a shower of bullets down a path of insurgents. And then he ducked back into cover.
"Don't bother with the soldiers there, Max!" Lauren shouted and made her ice wall higher "We need those APCs here, clear the gap!"
"You'll have to bar those pathways then," Max said and checked his ammo, "I can't move and cover you before I got to reload."
"What ever, Just hurry!" Lauren said and checked on her patient, but he had already gone limp. "Darn it." She hissed at her failure, and then closed his eyes.
That's when the troops started to come up behind them, it started as just a truck that Max shot at, when it stopped moving, an entire squad ran out from behind it and scattered with guns flaring. The shots were painful even against the body armor they wore, but that'd change as the got closer with their sub-machine guns.
Max stepped in front of Lauren as they ran in, the bullets knick and strike his armor, and then let go for his chain gun. He planted his feet firmly and then threw a punch at the spread, charging squad, and a shock wave boomed from his hand to were it could be see. The force of the concussive blast sent the squad off their feet and away, knocking their guns from the hands of some. They hit the ground and scrambled back to their feet. Max threw another punch and the shock wave sent them further back. Max lifted up his mini-gun again and shot as many as he could before his mini-gun was empty, but by that time there was still four more men. It was a risky bluff, but Max kept aim on the men, as if he was going to shoot them. They only looked at him as the gun was pointed at them.
"Lauren, you got to finish soon, I'm out and they're gonna know I'm out." Max growled as he kept eye contact with the last of the squad. Soon they were getting up "Are you even done?"
"Yes, just hold on!" Lauren said and she ran out in front of him, she knelt and took aim with her pistol and shot the last four herself "Now reload, We got to get to the APCs"
"Team, We got an issue." Sue's name came in through the coms, "They got to the APCs. The drivers are dead in two of them, and one was blown up."
"They got rockets too?" Lauren responded "Goodness gracious, Where's Analie?"
"Analie's frozen." Tessa said over the coms "Something's wrong with her."
"I'll come check on her," Lauren said "Does any one out there know where these guys are coming from?"
"Hell if I know." Shadow shouted into the coms "They've got guns everywhere!"
"I'll go protect the APCs" Max said to Lauren "Go push these guys back." then he finished reloading his chain gun.
"I heard that." Sue interrupted "I'll drive them closer to you to cover distance."
"Sounds like a plan." Lauren said then spoke into the coms "Tessa, go find Shadow. I'll help Analie."
"Roger that."
The two then split up, guiding what the could of the soldiers away as troops came in on trucks for the onslaught.
