Night In The Woods - Mae
"Everything sucks forever."
My take on Margaret Borowski, aka Mae from Night In the Woods video game. I couldn't make her fur completely black like she is portrayed in the game or I would have lost a lot of detail, but tried my best to keep her "nightmare eyes". I didn't really know how to portray her in this illustration, but after seeing so many fan images of her holding a bat, I wanted to do something different. I focused mostly on her depressed state of mind rather than a bad-ass attitude. From my take on her, she is a depressed and mentally confused/tortured individual with a kind heart and a childish personality. I mostly got this vibe while doing the Bea relationship story. I also made her figure rounder than previous fan art since she did say that she was "short and plump".

Just like Bea, your portrayal of Mae is fantastic! It's a perfect mix of your fuzzy, weighty style and the game's cartoonish graphics. I am also very pleased you got across her pudgy figure, something that is indeed often missed in fan art. And I think you captured her mental state very well. I can see the weight of the game's events and backstory hanging on those shoulders.
It is an absolute blessing to see you do these beloved characters from Night in the Woods. I hope it is not the last time we see Mae and Bea in your style.

Fantastic! I can see how trying to replicate her dark fur would be tricky, but I feel you could push the values a step further if you wanted to.
Still, what you accomplished is wonderful and I respect your decision to try a more somewhat laid-back quiet moment with the character. Honestly when it comes down to her physique I've seen just about every interpretation there is and really they all work, but I agree with you that giving her a little pudge seems to work best.
