This was awkward for me to post, because I wasn't sure whether to post this, just the background or both. On one hand, it looks kind of cool how realistic Temiree looks. On another hand, he doesn't add a lot to the painting itself. Generic pose, generic smile. Again, do I post this, the background, both?
I decided to post this. =) It started as a landscape speedpaint last week that took me 90 minutes to do. It didn't take me very long and I was going to post it that night. However, I decided to take it a step further. Try rendering a character as realistically as I can with the background I've been given; so not only would I have to study the lighting and match it, it'd have to look realistic too.
The reason I'm posting this instead of the speedpaint itself, is because the character was a challenge in itself, and I'd like for everyone to see the results. I doubt this will get many favs like my other pictures since, admittedly, there isn't a lot "there" creativity wise. It's just a painting referenced from a photo with my character slapped on it. But I appreciate it on the technique it took to make it, and I'd like to share it for that reason. =)
I'll definitely have more interesting stuff up soon. I also hope all my practice with anatomy this month can be seen in this. I need to try practicing more with more animal-like bodies though. They're a lot harder than I thought, and I don't feel like posting my results yet. *faints*
Enjoy guys!

That's really good! You shouldn't say stuff like "generic" when you're talking about something you're proud of. If you look at them individually, they are both very good. The background or "speedpaint" (sorry, never heard this term before! >.<) is very realistic, and it's hard to believe it's a painting. The character, of course, is correctly proportioned, shows good shading and remains true to your style. When added together, it is anything but "generic". You did a really good job, and should be proud of it.
I know I'm probably not one to talk, since I am only starting in my art career, but you really did a great job dude!!!

Nah, don't talk about yourself like that. I value critiques and comments equally, and it's just a matter of whether or not I agree with them. I've had family who's barely drawn in their life bring up stuff that I hadn't noticed, and greatly appreciated and valued. So it's no big deal. =3
Good luck with your art career!

Wow, it looks like an oil painting. I like him in the picture, he adds something to that side of the picture. I can tell you really put a lot of love into him. He looks amazing. Like he's about to walk right off the screen!
Seriouly? Only 90 minutes? I couldn't pull this outta my ass in a decade. I tried.
I like what you did with the hill back there on the right with all the different colors on it, like that whole area of the countryside has a life of its own.
And of course, my usual comments: "Fantastic clouds, grasses, keep it up... yadda yadda"

Sorry for the late reply!
Thanks so much! I'm glad he looks realistic and "alive" to you. =3
As for 90 minutes, yes, for the background. I had reference so it made it a ton easier. Temiree himself probably took me a few hours. (in case you misinterpreted what I said x3)
Thanks man!
