After making a few more adjustments to the head (not big enough to warrant more headposts), I went back to the hands. I do have a full body already but the details are just crying for finetuning. Like the head, the hand needs to be a compromise between a cartoony and a more realistic look - so, no Zootopia stubby fingers here; but no overly detailed wrinkly skin either which wouldn't be visible in the end anyway because of the fur.
The fur here is a quick brush over a standard fur derived from the same fur object as the head. The thickness seems to fit the hand - gradient to the hairless palm requires work; at the moment the palm polygons are simply hairless.
There will be no pads. On hands they make very little sense except as an evolutionary remnant from the times the critter walked on all fours. Also, most artists draw them in a manner that is inconsistent to the way a paw is actually touching ground, so my interpretation would look weird to most. I will keep the hairless palm though, and maybe lay out darker colors where the pads would be.
The palm has actually more structure than visible here - it looks fairly flat because of the shadow. Coloring the fur and the skin will also add much more optical structure later.
Disregard the toes in the background. They are just gross.
