The breeze tumbles down
the street on which i walk.
Like a stray dog
I stand
alone.
I dip my fingers into
a puddle; cold but worth it.
I splash my face and shiver.
Alone.
I see a light; a car.
It flies past without care.
I jump out of the way;
oblivious; alone.
I continue to walk along the path.
My nose collides with a familliar scent; a cigarette.
I scrunch my nose and follow it.
Alone.
I arrive at the aroma's source:
an unfamilliar face by the park entrance.
A man;
Alone.
I stare for a moment, as does he.
We share a characteristic;
neither with an owner; no collar.
Alone.
We are the stray dogs of the night;
walking along an abandoned park.
Never again to endure this fight;
Never again alone in the dark.
the street on which i walk.
Like a stray dog
I stand
alone.
I dip my fingers into
a puddle; cold but worth it.
I splash my face and shiver.
Alone.
I see a light; a car.
It flies past without care.
I jump out of the way;
oblivious; alone.
I continue to walk along the path.
My nose collides with a familliar scent; a cigarette.
I scrunch my nose and follow it.
Alone.
I arrive at the aroma's source:
an unfamilliar face by the park entrance.
A man;
Alone.
I stare for a moment, as does he.
We share a characteristic;
neither with an owner; no collar.
Alone.
We are the stray dogs of the night;
walking along an abandoned park.
Never again to endure this fight;
Never again alone in the dark.
