Ok, I took this picture in a small town in Luxemborg when I was there back in May of 2009. This was a statue that was in the middle of the town square. Now, I have no idea what is going on in this picture. Why is the donkey shitting coins? Why is the guy holding up the donkey's tail like he's about to ride it into oblivion? Why is he catching coins that have just come out of a donkey's tail-hole in his hat? Why is the guy's hair not messed up from wearing a hat all day?
I assume that this came from some local or national fokelore, but I have no idea what it is. If anyone, anyone, can tell me what is going on in this statue, I would be grateful.

The golden ass is often used to explain a certain interest-dilemma as well but I lack the proper vocabulary to explain this in English. ^v^ A part of it is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Present_value
Hope that helped clear things up a bit.
My answer is that it isn't his hat. He doesn't wear a hat, and even if he did, there's no reason to use HIS hat to catch coins from that end of a donkey. Sure, he can buy a new hat, after he cleans the coins, but...
Hmmm... may have an answer for the tail being held up like it is... Maybe the tail is like the arm of a slot machine and the guy just hit the jackpot? ... Of course, I can't make out from the picture if the donkey doing this is a jack or a jenny, so it might be a jennypot?
Yeah, okay, that last comment was a little too foolish.
