Scythian dagger in progress
This will eventually be a repro of a 5th century BC Scythian iron dagger.
Its been cut out now, from really thick mild steel.
Mild was chosen to get as close as practical to the wrought iron the originals were made from.
The stock is really thick, because the original I am working from is all metal- the grip, guard and pommel are all one piece of forged iron, and I'll be grinding it to leave those areas raised.
Lots of hand filing and detail grinding ahead...
A job like this has a ton of very small bits that all need to be cut evenly and smooth.
The final version may take weeks to make.
