Longer view of the war belt and seax.
I made 12 plates for this belt, plus the buckle, beuckle tongue and one thin plate to help weigh down the loose end of the belt when worn.
Theres a lot of whats called punchwork decoration as well- small punched dimples that form patterns.
Each one carefully formed one at a time with a hand held punch and a hammer.
I used a motif I found when doing research into 6th century belt and personal items that have been dug up at archeological sites. The individual plates were cut from solid brass plate stock, hend beveled along all the edges, and bordered with punched designs.
Then three punched geometric designs were selected, and repeated for three sets of four plates.
Two large dome headed rivets in solid brass hold each plate to the thick leather belt.
I did not make any decorative punches on the seax...I usually don't on weapons.
