Through Rose-Coloured Glasses
Flat coloured piece of my pretty leopard-panther girl, Lucille.
Upon purchasing Clip Studio Paint Pro two days ago, I figured I may as well try it out, and decided a personal piece would be preferable instead of the possibility of screwing up an owed piece and having to redo it completely or something.
It took me two days to get the lineart done (purely because the layout and tools etc are different to SAI and I'm completely new to CSP), and tbh I'm not happy with the result. The lines were so faint (despite all my best attempts with adjusting the pen pressure settings) I had to duplicate the layer to get them dark enough for colouring, and working on it gave me a headache. Because the lines were so faint it also made the lineart incredibly messy, and the auto-select tool in CSP wasn't able to properly highlight the parts I needed for starting the colouring process. I ended up exporting the lineart to PSD so I could finish the piece in SAI because I wasn't getting the results I wanted.
CSP certainly isn't a bad program, I just think it lends itself much better to digital painting rather than lines and colours, like most of my work. I'm certainly more comfortable in SAI, but I'm not counting my losses with CSP just yet. It has A LOT of brushes for watercolours, oil paints, pastels, and so on, so I'm, sure I'll be experimenting there at some point in the future. It also seems like an ideal platform for pixel artworks, so that would be interesting!
So, yeah. Because I wasn't used to the program, this isn't my best work. The colours sit funny against the lineart in places, and the muzzle I'm still not happy with, but I'm glad to have gotten it finished in some capacity so I can move past the frustration and get back to my owed pieces in my queue.
