dry brushing is how I did it, no didn't think to water down the paint for the drybrush. This really was an experiment in how to texture colours, something I've not done before. I wanted to try make lots of textures of ice blue and white for a lightning effect on the wires.
yeah i know what you mean exactly actually, because i tried doing it with my rune priest's lightning claws.. heres what a pro painter told me:
-flat color first
-add dark wash for depth
-add watered down highlight for "light gradient"
-add second layer with less water mixture
-highlight with "white" color to give hot spots (in this case ice blue/white)
then if you want, you can add the "crackling" effects of stray bolts here and there for final touch ups, tho thats not required..
but yeah, try it out on something else.. he told me take some extra bits that have good texture to it (extra tank plate for example) and try those techniques on it.. but yeah.. :D goodluck and keep it up! :D
