Thank you. One inspiration is the big pictures on the opening pages of the good European adventure comics.
From living near small farming towns in the USA, I know the 'false-front' style of building for businesses. This island is also supposed to have the background of European and Asian and Polynesian colonial buildings, all mixed up.
