In spite of their being royalty, and living in a castle full of hundreds of people willing to wait on them, Emer's family has always placed a great deal of emphasis on self reliance. This suits Emer just fine as it means she always has something to keep her occupied and because she enjoys learning new things. She already knows how to fight a little, thanks to her grandmother's insistence. Ciara taught her how to work with steel and Niamh taught her how to treat injuries up to broken bones. She has even learned a few minor spells from her sire, Liane. Unfortunately, she seems to have inherited Ciara's total lack of talent in the kitchen. Poor pup. All she wanted to do was make breakfast for her mothers!

I was never quite this bad, but when I was Emer's age I was pretty close. On the bright side, that is quite an impressive fire she's got going there, and if she has the same luck as your friend, at least she won't have to worry about a bunch of stripey-tailed scavengers hanging around, either.
I never meant to imply she meant to do anything mean or dangerous. I know Molly's a good kid and would never do such a thing! I had kind of thought that a girl who could use magic before she was even born might kind of overestimate someone else's ability to handle it, but that's it.
That's true, and I see what you were getting at. Actually I was also thinking that an incendiary spell is a bit advanced for someone as young as Emer even as mature as she is for her age. Molly may be sweet and all but she's not the most experienced girl in the world either and could show lapses of judgement sometimes. I suppose we all can, comes to that.
It's true we all make mistakes, but hey, no harm no foul. Fortunately the only casualty of this particular incident was breakfast and now Emer knows it's better to reach for the matches than try out spells she only just learned.

Her expression is just fantastic, I agree, and the little flame in her hair is a wonderful touch. And all Mal's doing, though I very much approve! It's possible that Deborah taught her the fire spell, too, though I imagine Emer was a little too eager to wait for lesson two on how to control it!
