Finally here is the first(of only two) video from the 2009 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Emco Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course that I will be posting here on FA.
This video is from just after the Daytona Prototypes have taken the green flag, which is done on the backstretch at Mid-Ohio(due to the first turn being too narrow to safely conduct a double-file start. Single-file restarts are conducted on the normal front straight), so we're seeing them go into what is normally Turn 4.
The Daytona Prototypes are specialized purpose-built racing machines unique to the Rolex Sports Car Series. They are designed to be the safest machines in all of racing - the blunt front end and ginormous driver compartments exist for the purpose of slowing the cars down(by increasing drag) and protecting the driver better in a crash. The result are some very ugly cars(with the sole exception of the Crawford DP08 chassis - pictured in the thumbnail) that provide some very great racing, despite being slower around a lap than many other sports racers such as Le Mans Prototypes. Daytona Prototypes are designed to be less aero-sensitive(despite, or perhaps BECAUSE OF, the massive drag) and run stock-block engines(IE, based on ones offered by the manufacturer) to reduce operating expenses.
Sorry to say I'm having some pretty nasty troubles with the videos I got from Mid-Ohio ready for posting. In converting them to SWF format for posting here, I've found that very few can be set up with any reasonable quality and meet FA's size limits, and thus decided to limit myself to but the two videos I have posted. I am trying to combine these with the others in order to make a single large video for posting on Youtube, but it's in getting things combined(every program I try either doesn't work or can't make a working file) that I'm having trouble. Once I get it sorted, I'll post a link here(as well as in a journal so my Watchers will be notified).
