Wow, that looks so cool! I've tried many kinds of art, but wood burning sadly isn't one. How hard is it to do a piece, and is there a risk of burning your hand/fingers?

Thank you :) its not too hard. i have a little plaque with all my test lines, paints, stippling and gloss on haha looks crazy but was really helpful to test out your lines before doing them for real. so would recommend you have one before diving in :) and as for the burning... i havent burnt myself yet. i have only done 6 pieces so its bound to happen. also one thing to note, as artists we tend to like to hold our pencils closer to the tip but you cant do that with a burner coz you would burn yourself. so make sure you get use to holding it :)
ow i also recommend having a face/mouth mask as it does smoke a bit and made me feel a bit sick when i first did it because i didnt know :)

but its great fun and make fab gifts :)

Did you use paint, stain, or something else for the colours?

I used my Windsor and newton inks :) i thought they would soak in to the wood more, so you could still see the grain but still have a different colour (and it worked) :)

i have been feverishly picking up art hobbies this year, and wood-burning is yet another one that's grabbed my attention... any advice for someone who has no idea where to start? >v>

i recently picked it up :) as for tips have a little block that you use as a test piece for trying the different tips, an paints you wanna use on thet wood type and trying out glosses :)
don't touch the nib to change it over until its cooled hahaha did that once haha. i have a cup of ice water to try cool it quicker though :)
aaaaand its hard to hold at first so deffo practice first :)
