Ah Bal had been sent there long before his master set his great beast upon the unworthy human worshipers, demanding repayment for all of his generosity. It had been Ah Puch, the great Mayan god of death the humans had worshiped, praying for victory against their enemies; and it was Ah Puch that had given them what they desired in return for sacrifice.
Be it their own blood, or the blood of their enemies, Ah Puch hadn't been too picky. All the god demanded was unfettered blood be spilt upon the physical alter, and it was those very same ungrateful humans that had denied the death god their payment. It was that dry alter that had caused Ah Puch to send his faithful little servant Ah Bal to demand repayment for the generosity; to which the humans ignored the very servant of the death god they had once worshiped.
They claimed they no longer followed the old gods, nor longer owed anything to beings that did not physically exist. It was foolish of them to claim such things to a servant that did indeed exist, and represented a god that could send forth punishment for their transgressions. Ah Bal gave only one heed of warning to the humans, telling them that repayment was long since due, and they needed sacrifices if they wish to avoid Ah Puch's wrath.
The humans, foolish as they were, did not heed his warning, sending him away with shouts and stones. Ah Bal disappeared within the shadows of the disheveled temple to Ah Puch, returning to his master and retelling of what had transpired during his time in the mortal realm. Furious, Ah Puch sent forth his great beast, Ixll, to reclaim his repayment in the form of blood; the very SAME blood he was long overdue, only instead of taking it from his worshiper's enemies as they should have been providing, Ah Puch's great beast took it out of their very own hides.
Not a soul was spared that chilled night, no man, woman, or child was safe from Ah Puch's wrath. Not only was their blood spilled, their souls were devoured by Ixll, never to make it beyond the very gates of life and death, forever left to wander lost and alone within the belly of that great beast.
Not much to say about this one, wanted to go with something darker than normal when I started with the imp, it grew into something else entirely.
Drawn in OC4, painted in CS/ Painter X
Story, Art, Ah Bal (imp) and Ixll (beast) belong to myself
