Even since I found Asian youTube channels like RunnyRunny999, Cooking With Dog, & ONLY in JAPAN, I've been trying to make my own ramen dish, and I made a pretty simple one here. This is a simple "hack" to your typical store-bought instant ramen pack, using simply ingredients you can find at Walmart, or any other grocery store.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 sausage hotdogs (I'm using Hillshire Farm's Polska Kielbasa)
- lease than 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- lease than 1/4 cup bean sprouts (you can use canned bean sprouts)
- One whole egg
- 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) water for soup base
- 2 cups water for ramen noodles
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- some garlic & ginger powder
- some sesame oil
- One chicken flavor instant ramen pack
- cooking spray for sausage bites
HOW TO MAKE:
1.) Prep your egg by filling a pot with enough water to submerge the egg. Bring the water to a boil, and place the egg in the boiling water for about 5 1/2 minutes. Then remove the egg and let it sit in a bowl of cold water. When the egg is cooled, peel away the egg shell, and set aside.
2.) Take the two sausage hotdogs and cut each of them into 4 equal pieces (8 total). Then, cut each quarter in half down the centers, making 16-total flat-sided pieces. Place sausage bits in a tuber-ward bowl & squirt in some soy sauce. Cover, and shake until soy sauce is mixed with bites. Spray pan with cooking spray, and place it over medium heat (gas mark 4 or 5). Sprinkle a little water on the pan surface. It's ready when water starts to sizzle. Place the sausage pieces in the pan, flat-side down, and cook until flat sides show burnt marks. This will give the bites a chard grilled look. Turn them over and cook a minute more. Remove from heat and set aside.
3.) In a wok or large frying pan, add 300 ml (or 1 1/4 cups) water, 3 tbsp soy sauce, garlic & ginger powder, sesame oil, and the chicken seasoning from your instant ramen pack, and cook on high heat (gas mark 7). Stir the soup mixture with a wooden spoon until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat, and pour the boiling soup through a strainer into a soup bowl.
4.) Bring two cups of water to a boil in medium pot. Add your ramen noodles and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat, and drain noodles in strainer. Add noodles to your soup bowl. Next, cut your half-boiled egg in equal halves. Top your completed ramen with egg, bean sprouts, sausage bites, & green onion.
5.) Place bowl on small plate, and place chop sticks & soup spoon on either side of bowl.
