Well, it was very durable, of good quality, comparibly cheap in production. All reasons why the germans used them during WW2 as well.

Tho, if the WW2 had not happened and Japan had not attacked China, the industrialization of china would have much more progressed and in the end china as a whole would have become a valuable trade partner for the entire world.

Indeed. Imagine this. If Republic of China was able to reborn into an indsutrialized modern nation. That means no Communist China and North Korea. it'd lead to forcing Japan to abandon hyper aggressive imperialistic policy (and make it switch to Oceanic policy like UK). Leads to rebirth of Korea Republic and returning North East (Manchuria) to China. RoC, Japan and Republic of Korea works together to dislodge Soviet away from Siberia and Japan gets a big piece of the pie from former Soviet territory = Happy Japan. Peace between China Korea and Japan = free flow of population = decreasing hostility in generation, especially consider these three nation has similar culture root. (Think Roman to Western World)
