I am re uploading this story because now there are fewer mistakes then in the previous version. This is the story of the picture that was uploading earlier today as part of Simian Saturday.
Anger, Rage, and Frustration.
These were all the emotions Tyler felt as he barged through the trees behind his house. For the tenth time that day he was undoubtedly beaten in the online tournament for “Lost Arc.” He had spent so long training and practicing but he was still beaten. His character was a beast warrior named Stax who had max stats and the best weapons Tyler could find. No matter what he tried he was defeated by any opponent that came his way. It was not even close. It seemed that everyone else in the world seemed to be better than him. Of course, he should have known. It was one of those games where either you fought some newb who barely knew how to play or someone who kicked your butt and hung it on their virtual wall.
"Stupid game!" He screamed and kicked a rather large rock into the air. He watched it going streaming into the distance where it crashed into a large bush. He had never wondered this deep in the woods before. His parents insisted they live outside of town so they would have a peaceful life. Away from the loud noises and constant commotion of a town with only 2,000 people. Hands in his pockets, Tyler continued to trudge along, stepping over roots sticking out the dirt as if trying to trip him up. He hopped along the roots and ran his hands over the large trees that surrounded him. The sky was completely obscured by the greenery of the branch and leaves. It was the middle of summer so of course, everything was in full bloom.
He looked behind him to make sure he knew how to get back to his house. He could barely make up the open space that made up his backyard. It was still visible so he had not gotten that far. He would have to fix that. Turning around, he broke into a run and went deeper through the trees. Branches and twigs stuck out trying to stop him but he charged through them without a second thought. As he ran, he grabbed every branch and stem he could and ripped them away. He wanted the forest to feel the same pain he felt. He was still fuming. The thoughts of his avatar being overtaken by even the simplest opponents made his blood boil.
Tyler swung the large branch around and let it go. It flew away crashing through the trees. He kicked the dirt and screamed into the sky. Anyone watching this would call it a temper tantrum. He did not care. He was angry and wanted to take his frustration out on anything that moved. In the corner of his eye, he saw a squirrel scurrying around the underbrush. He picked up a rock that rested next to his foot and tossed it directly at the squirrel. It missed by a foot but it still scared the poor creature. It ran up the nearest tree trunk and disappeared in the deep branches.
“Yeah, you better run!” He screamed at the animal. “Stupid thing. Stupid animal. Why do they even exist? They are so pointless! Everything pointless.”
How many hours did he put in that game getting ready? It was not fair. He swung his arms hitting the empty air. Finally stopping, he tried to catch his breath. His heartbeat rapidly against his chest. He was still angry. He walked to the tree that squirrel ran to and gripped a low-hanging branch.
“Don’t do it,” he heard someone whisper.
He looked around but there was no one there. Believing he imagined it, Tyler tore the branch off and began banging it against the bark. Slam, bang, and crack. The branch broke in his hand. The upper part flew off and landed in the dirt several feet away.
Twisting the remaining piece in his hand, Tyler threw it like a javelin and watched it soar away.
“I told you to stop it.” He heard the whisper again. Tyler looked around and spotted something hovering over his head. At first glance it looked like a large bug, only it was glowing with a bright blue light.
“What?”
“What do you think you are doing to this forest,” the blue bug spoke again.
“Umm, I don’t,” was all he could muster. The idea that this little blue ball of light was talking to him was making it hard to speak.
“Umm. That is all you can say. Look at the damage you did.” The bug began to shake and gesture towards the path of rampage Tyler caused. Broken branches and torn plants littered the forest floor. Rocks were turned over and several trees had marks from where he hit them.
“This tree is sacred and you damaged it,” the bug said and gestured towards the tree Tyler was just hitting.
“Okay, I’m leaving. When bugs start talking then it is time to go home,” he said. “It must be the heat. It is too hot out here for me. I’m hallucinating.”
Tyler began to walk away from the glowing bug. It shouted at him but he ignored its cries. He thought about trying the game again. Maybe he would have better luck this time. He could try a new strategy.
All of a sudden, the glowing bug flew in front of his face and hovered there. Tyler could make out some details. It was a small girl with long blue hair draped over her shoulder tied in a long braid. She wore a simple dress and had a crown of twigs around her forehead. Her wings fluttered with a silver sheen.
“What do you want?” Tyler asked impatiently. “I’m leaving so get out of the way.”
“You think you can just destroy half the forest and just walk away. You damaged a very important tree. That tree is sacred to us fairies.”
Tyler burst out laughing. “Fairies? Fairies aren’t real. I don’t know what you are but you are not a fairy.”
He swatted at her with his hand and began walking once more. The trail of destruction made it easy for him to find his way home. “Besides, I did not damage half the forest. I just broke a few limbs. What’s the big deal?”
“You’ll see what the big deal is!” the fairy shouted.
She hovered over him and suddenly blue dust rained down on Tyler’s head. “What’s this?” Tyler asked examining some of the dust on his hand.
His body began to ache. His stomach burned and his head felt like it was splitting open. He clutched his chest and bent over like he was about to vomit.
“What are you doing to me?” he asked as the pain increased.
“If you want to act like an ape then so be it.”
Tyler’s hands started growing larger as black hair began growing along his arms. His arms bulged as the black hair grew, covering all the exposed skin. His shoes burst open revealing his socks which too were being ripped apart by his feet. He stared as his feet became larger and each toe grew longer.
“You are going to be big and strong,” the fairy said gleefully.
“My body hurts. Please stop.”
His stomach grew larger as if he gained several hundred pounds in seconds. His shirt could no longer cover the massive gut. Black hair grew over his back and up his neck. As it grew, his skull cracked and grew larger.
“You don’t need a shirt anymore,” the fairy said. In that instant, Tyler’s shirt disappeared from his body. His exposed chest was suddenly covered in black hair except for his stomach and upper part. As his body continued to expand, growing wider and heavier, Tyler could fill his bones reposition themselves to match his new form. Each crack sent a wave of pain to his brain.
“Change me back, I’m begging you.”
The fairy shook side to side and said, “Nope, you are almost done.”
Tyler’s skin turned gray and rough as the hair grew thicker all over his body. His pants disappeared, leaving his entire body naked. His face morphed, taking on a more latex like appearance. His nose receded in his face leaving two large holes. His brow became larger and dropped towards his sunken eyes. His jaw and lips protruded from his face as his teeth become long and sharp. He coughed several times as his internal organs reshaped themselves to function properly in the new body. Finally, the weight of his body was too much for him. Tyler fell forward and propped himself up on his large knuckles.
“Hehehe,” the fairy giggled and flew off leaving Tyler alone and confused.
Standing up for a second, he waved a massive fist in the air and screamed in his hoarse grunting voice, “Come back and make me normal!”
It was too late. The fairy disappeared into the trees. With no other choice, Tyler knuckle walked back to his house. His parents were gone for the day so he was alone. He had to figure out a way to explain his new appearance. His sat down on the floor in front of the TV and picked up his game controller. He forgot he left the game on. With a bulging finger, he pressed the A button on the controller and began a new challenge. A few minutes later, he was defeated once again. His super-sized hand made using the small controller a nearly impossible task. In his rage, he snapped the controller in two and threw it on the floor. Standing up, he banged his fists on his chest and roared as loudly as he could.
“Stupid game,” he grunted and walked away.
