Zeus was a bit of a tough nut to crack. This is because I only had the portrait to work with. Did that stop me? Clearly no.
The first part, as you can guess, was cropping out Zeus. The idea was to give him a thunderous background and to do that I needed a blank background.
Problems began early however because, as you can see in the original, Zeus has a lot of floating hair, "mini thunders", etc. This called for a LOT of pixel pushing and eventually I opted to cut out most of the thunders in order to bring focus on his eyes.
After I cropped Zeus out "more or less" I then put him on my chosen background, and then I saw even more white pixels, here and there. Left overs from the thunder effects and the original background. Cropping just this portrait took me around 90 minutes. Moxing the background to meet Zeus' eye, changing its color and adding a bit of white to connect with the thunder strike took very little time. It was mainly the hair that took the most effort.
Although not visible here the thunder has the samo color (more or less) as Zeus' clothing.
A small final touch was adding a soft white glow, around Zeus. That was also relatively easy, I "Dropped" a flat shadow around his edges and opted for it to be white.
And, as you can guess, when you have an employee who is all about deadly electrical discharge you want him to walk around in rubber mittens.
