My recovery continues without note, but I shall make today’s entry about a particularly brash individual I forgot to mention earlier.
During my first few days, several wood warders had come by to ensure I was not causing trouble. I had mentioned Rael among them, and most of them shared her professionalism.
With one exception.
The Viera Kjrs has been commanding and abrasive to the point that I fear she may burst through my door at any moment and kill me where I stand! (or lie rather)
She has barked orders at me like a soldier, and forced me to reply curtly and succinctly. I of course comply, but I do wonder if it is truly necessary. Worse still, she seems to be the one most frequently assigned to check on me, making her an ever present source of dread! Her consistency is almost comical in a way, however, as now I can recognize her bold steps and stiletto heels loudly slamming into the wooden walkways long before she opens my door!
When I asked Rena and Nera about her, they too echoed my impression. They say that she is very forceful in her duties, even among her own kind. But, her skills in combat are extremely impressive, so she has risen quickly through the ranks in spite of her behavior.
However, she immediately balks in the face of her superiors, cowing to them in a drastic way. Rena says that despite her outward appearance she is extremely eager to perform her duties adequately, causing her to act in the excess. She projects an aura of superiority not out of spite or pride, but out of fear. It is for this reason I almost pity her in a way, as I have known many others who carry themselves in such a manner.
Rena also added that she is extremely self-conscious about her ears, as they are quite large. Nobody in the village thinks ill of this trait, most finding them endearing in fact, but Kjrs is terrified that they are an object of mockery. Rena took on a mischievous expression and suggested I try using this to get under her skin should she confront me too strongly, but upon hearing this Nera fervently shook her head with her as eyes wide as she could make them and I have decided that it would be in my best interests to refrain.
Meet Kjrs, the Brash and imposing Wood Warder!
Not one to mince words, she doesn’t have the time nor the patience to explain things twice. If you fail to do as she says the first time, then you had best beg for forgiveness!
But beneath her harsh demeanor lies an endless maelstrom of doubt and anxiety, with her oversized ears being one such worry.
She is mistrusting of outsiders and quick to judge others, so it would be in anyone’s best interests to avoid her unless necessary!
