[gift] Sympathy for the Devil
He has channeled life into millions upon billions of stars for the Great Will. As befitting his later namesake, his handiwork illuminated the young Universe, and he had been commended by the Great Will for the effort and artistry, second only to the Great Will's own.
This, among other things, made the betrayal by the Great Will an even deeper pain than the punishment itself.
The punishment was meted with a brutality only possible by one who knew him with a lover's intimacy. His elegant visage was marred when the Great Will stripped off only half his body of silken white pelt and living skin. His eyes were cursed with bloodied filth, so that if any choose to look into them, they would see only the horrific, tainted spirit within. His wings were consumed in holy fire, and an animal tail grew out from his back.
To complete his sentence for defying the Great Will, his limp body was sent hurtling down into the world of base, impure matter, the realm of Sophia's bastard child, the Demiurge imprisoned by its own ignorance.
As the former father of suns laid quietly in the snow and ice, he remembered the battle. The heat, the motion, the clatter and roar as a third of the Great Will's own children fought with him to thwart the divine plans. He could not imagine the torment arrayed for them, but there has never been room in the Lightbringer's mind for any sympathy: he knew, always that he was never wrong.
If he were to die now, if he were to be reborn only to repeat the torment, he would still find comfort (and fire) in the fact that whatever he did, he had done because he was unequivocally right.
He heard footsteps in the snow, and struggled to lift his head. He looked up to see an odd, humanoid thing with a skeletal face returning his gaze with glowing green eyes.
"Pride, thy name beeth sorrow. They burned thy body, they burned thy wings and they casted thee to down the world of Man. Wishest thou for a redress?" it said.
Rui opened his mouth to answer, but he could only cough up blood.
>> Excellent universe crossover painting by a good friend. Thanks, man. =D
