Another photo from the 1984 San Diego Comic Con. In this snapshot, your humble artist is seen with Don Bluth, who attended the con in part to promote Dragon's Lair, which had hit the arcades just a few weeks earlier. This was taken at a special reception where I also met and chatted with several artists and animators, including Bob Clampett and Grim Natwick (who had just received an ASIFA award for lifetime achievements in animaion).

It was -- though to be fair that wasn't the first time I had met him.
I was introduced to Don Bluth a few days earlier at his studio, which used to be in a very nondescript building on Ventura Blvd. in Los Angeles. A friend was working at the studio at the time and I accompanied him to help him prepare the Bluth Studio's table at the 1984 San Diego Comic Con (the same con where I met David Carradine and Lux Interior),
At the studio I got to meet Bluth, John Pomeroy, Gary Goldman and Philo Barnhart (who was a Key Character Assistant on The Secret of NIMH). My most enduring memory of that day is sorting a box Dragon's Lair cels in Goldman's office. They were all very nice folks and I had a great time during my visit.
