Good gravy, I feel like I'm 13 again.
Furry Amino held a "crossover" contest in which the goal was to design "fursonas" for your cartoon character(s) of choice. Unfortunately I missed the deadline by just a few scant hours...darn it. Oh well. Here it is anyways.
Wolves were an easy choice for Katara and Sokka. Setting aside the obvious of coming from a cold climate, the Water Tribes are said to be able to adapt to any difficult circumstances by sticking together--not unlike a wolf pack. Wolves are very loyal to their pack/family, and are formidable yet playful creatures. I think these characteristics fit the water siblings well. Also the Water Tribe's battle helmets are literally shaped like wolves, so. Yeah.
Aang was a slightly more difficult decision. At first I was going to make him a dog to better fit with Katara and Sokka, but while a doggo would fit Aang’s playful, friendly attitude, his dedication to his peacefulness to the extent of being a vegetarian in the show made it difficult to really see him as any carnivorous creature, even one as docile as a dog. (And no, vegetarianism is not a “default airbender” thing; when speaking to the spirit of previous Air Nomad avatar YangChen, Aang specifically points out that he’s “even a vegetarian” in regards to her comments on the sanctity of life, leading me to believe that Aang’s being a vegetarian was a personal choice and not a cultural requirement).
All that said, I decided to make Aang a bunny. This sweet little animal still has the innocence and playfulness of a dog, but coupled with a reputation for peacefulness and...well, pretty much the sheer opposite of violence. Plus they are speedy and good jumpers, which also makes them a great fit for an airbender!
...yeah.
