She's an Odo Artisard, creatures with an unmatched sense of smell and a natural ability to produce and emmit chemicals that affect the emotional state of creatures that come into contact with them. Pheromones, in other words. To the Odo, it's an important form of communication, just as paintings are to the Picto and speech is to the Voka.

Sal is among the rare few Odo Artisards whom has full and complex control over her natural abilities and she is more than willing to use them for her own gain. That being said, what Sal considers to be "Her Benefit" mostly just means "Having something to do," so she's generally harmless.

Now let's end on some Odo Trivia: The Odo Artisards generally make exceptional cooks. Their exceptional sense of smell means they can essentially taste the food before they've even touched it. They can even tell what its ingredients are by scent alone!
