Officer Joey Harewolf of the Laporian Allied Police Department (LAPD). The first (and only) rabbit/satyr/cyborg hybrid on the force.
As Joey Virgo, his original self was born into a tough neighborhood, to an abusive mother and an absent father. As a result he was a delinquent from a very young age, joining violent gangs with the other young bunnies around him, and often breaking the law. Life for Joey was that of someone inside a ghetto, always fighting, always getting in trouble, and always getting hurt.
Eventually, Joey became an amputee, losing a leg and bound to a wheelchair, in his late teenage years when he was barely an adult. This inadvertently saved his life as he was forced to leave his life of crime and gang fighting, and was discovered by scientists and doctors who were undertaking an early experiment in artificial implant grafting, to replace lost limbs with cybernetic ones that were far superior to any existing prosthetic.
With a new leg and a determination to escape his past, Joey trained for several different combat sports including boxing, wrestling and fencing, but was still considered disadvantaged due to being an amputee. He also applied his electric guitar skills from his youth, playing it as a hobby without joining any bands.
This next part is in bold, as it pertains to other IPs, namely Five Nights at Freddy's and Dr. Who. To put him in unique, original scenarios/storylines, I have to take this part of the backstory out. But I'll probably be focusing on other characters for that. It's essentially a crossover, and a way to sow the seeds for various projects in the past and future.
Eventually he met Remi Hotaru, who became the founder of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, that had secretly been given to him as an idea along with relics from the alien planet it originated from, by an alien creature who then disappeared without a trace. The alien, who called himself the Doctor*, left blueprints and relics as well as a warning not to use animatronics as entertainers for the restaurant, as the original restaurant it was based on had suffered a serious of tragedies relating to the animatronics. Remi eventually confided this information to Joey but left everyone else baffled as to where the idea had come from. The official cover story was that it came from a childhood story made up by Remi's parents, but was never properly written down.
Things went smoothly for Remi and Joey until their disappearance in 2580. Six years later, Joey reappared in a foreign country with no memory of what had happened to him, but having obviously been experimented on. He and Remi were found after an explosion that destroyed a classified military industrial facility, leaving no survivors except for Joey himself. Joey escaped, seeking asylum in his home country of Laporia. To represent his permanently altered identity, his surname was changed to Harewolf, the only word that he found in relation to his missing six years, the only clue to what really happened to him.
*The Seventh Doctor, fresh from Fazbear's Fright and the auctioning of the remains once it had burned down.
"Congrats, J. You're a dog of the police now."
So, Joey is a cop now. An eighties cop. A bunny cop with the initials J.H. doesn't sound very original when I think about it like that, but it really was a coincidence, and not his original name. Despite the initials, he's really meant to be rip off Kung Fury more than Zootopia. Kung Fury is a cop in Miami, 1985, but he wears his own clothes, no uniform. Maybe he could be promoted or end up in plain clothes division, as a detective or something but for now he has a pretty ordinary police uniform, hopefully not too different from American uniforms from the 1980s.
I drew Judy a couple times with help from Byron Howard, but if Joey existed in the Zootopia universe it would only be as a fictional character... 2587 is basically the historical equivalent of 1987, and Zootopia came out in 2016, so if Joey was a fictional character in that world, he would be a character from about 30 years before the events of Zootopia. Like John McClane from Die Hard. Maybe even an influence on Judy becoming a police officer in the first place... but probably not, as the things I draw are bound to get very adult, and Judy wanted to be a cop since she was very, very young. And it's a completely different world, which happens a lot in fantasy but not as often in sci-fi or action things.
Though, I think I'm liking Judy more and more as time goes by, she's very driven and has a certain optimism, which may seem naive, especially considering that a bunny has never made it as a cop before. But she has plenty of willpower as well, and is very quick on the uptake... actually taking advantage of Nick, a con artist. I wish I knew at the end how they outsmarted the villain, whether they planned it all ahead of time and which of them came up with the idea.
Comparing Judy to Amanda Ripley again... she's very much like Amanda in that they both could probably survive through a lot. They both have certain vulnerabilities and get quite emotional at times, but for very understandable reasons. Amanda is a little tougher, and less optimistic, but they both have a strong will, can think fast and have a high aptitude, even in really stressful situations. Judy is a little more charismatic, a little more likeable though. Not surprising really considering she's a Disney character.
