Reminds me of the melons I got growing in my garden. X3

I've attempted to grow square melons, I had jubilees growing, put one in a milk crate to see if it'd take on the square shape. The crazy weather we've been having and the fact I don't have time to pull weeds n' such sorta messed up the growth of my melons, so they ended up ripe before reaching the full size. XD [Jubilees are those huge watermelons you see at the grocery, the ones that're around 1 1/2' long.]

As for selling goes, such wouldn't really be feasible, you'd be better off getting a watermelon from the grocery store, besides mine aren't seedless, so they're loaded with seeds, a few hundred per melon. XD

Mmm, I didn't get any to take on that shape, and if I did, i'd still just assume they be used like any other melon, but thats me. I'd sooner use a squash or a gourd for decoration, which is why I have pumpkins growing as well, they're doing better than the melons. XD

Oh, and to check the ripeness of the melons, you first check to see if the underside is yellow, then you have to pat the surface gently, if it sounds hollow and jiggles ever so slightly, if all that checks out, then that means its ripe. Eh yes.. that means you'd be going around spanking watermelons.. you can do this with melons at the grocery as well to see if their ripe.. eh figure you might find this lil' tidbit of info amusing if you're in the market for a melon.. or something silly to play about with around friends while you're a melon, yourself~ XD
