I was thinking he'd suffer the fate of Jack Torrence from The Shining, (The original movie, not the book or remake) frozen to death with a crazy grin immortally stuck on his face. Your bear idea would be more merciful. The bear would have probably killed Steele instantly before eating him, maybe.
