during a sith lord staff meeting:
"Yes, now we are recruiting our sith lords at a much younger age, we don't have loyalty problems anymore. It appears that how younger we recruti them how more loyal they are*
btw, that is not the way to hold a lightsaber or any other sword, except if you wnat to cut yourself @_@

Reva just drew it true to the games. The Apprentice in both games that he's featured in(The Force Unleashed and Soul Calibur IV) wield a lightsaber with a reverse grip.
You are right though, unless you're an experienced wielder and planning on fighting defensively with a long blade, reverse grip isn't one of the smartest ways to hold a sword. In knife fighting on the other hand, it's a fairly common-used style, known as the Tactical or Defensive Grip.
Er...Sorry >.> Nice picture Reva

Considering that the Galen Marek was an exceptionally powerful Force wielder who isn't limited by mere physical combat, was trained by Darth Vader and a droid built expressly for the purpose of training him, and on a few occasions in the game flips the sword around and wields it in a more normal grip, and the fact that we're dealing with a guy wielding a plasma sword that is basically capable of cutting through anything (except for purposes of gameplay: you'd think Cortosis alloy was as common as Kryptonite in the Silver Age), I think we can let that one slide. Or we'll just chalk it up to rule of cool and run with it.
Be careful in there: TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life, after all.

I actually have to add my two cents here...I do pretty hard core medieval combat reinactment, and there are times when I've fought sword down. It's absolutely TERRIBLE as an attacking stance, but do it right and it's the strongest close range defensive stance I have. So....hoorays for improvisation. ^^
