One thing Bear and I wanted most of all to see while in China was an asiatic black bear (moon bear) as they are china bears, we found out that the only place we were going to that had them on display was at beijing zoo. But we were only in beijing for 2 days. It was a hassle to get to the zoo and by the time we got there we only had 2 hours there. So we basicky ran to the bears and stayed there to watch them for 1 hr. We would have stayed longer but the way the bears were treated by the zoo and the patrons was so hard to bare. So we went when we could not stand to watch them beg for food any longer. But that was in beijing
This photo is taken in the shanghai zoo and it is off a Sun bear. They are different to the moon bears not as fluffy and their crescent is higher up all most on their collar bone. The cresent is a different shape to the moon bear. It was great that we got a chance to see both types of black bear. So we now can tell the difference between the two types.
The zoos we when to were appalling. This is a photo of the sun bear begging for food from the Chinese tourists. I cannot believe they actually were feeding the bear food, just throwing stuff over the edge down into the cage. Waiting for the bear to stand up then throwing/pouring down food/juice. That sort of behaviour would never happen at the melbourne zoo. It was just strange to see. The cage was littered with rubbish, rats/mice and concrete.
Having been with a boy who is in love with bears it was sad to see them treated like that. But im glard we got to see them.

No they don’t get enough respect in china, Unless you happen to be a giant panda. It seemed the only animal they cared about and gave a nice grassy cage was to the panda. China has such grate fauna and I was expecting to see and hear heaps about their animals. But all I heard/ could see was that they were trying to save the panda and that’s all that mattered.
There is a moon bear rescue but that is run by foreigners. And gets very little support from the government.
