Concluding page to the one before this. Again, I can't possibly give an explaination to everything, but I'll ty to provide a few.

Avedon Carol was a notable fan at the time, who I knew fairly well. And, yes, she was a woman in any alternate universe. Lee Hoffman was a fan in the 1950's who astonished everyone with her gender neutral name. In those days, it wasn't unusual if no-one had actually met other fans. It was before travel to cons was cheap and commonplace. And female fans were unusual. So it was just assumed Lee Hoffman was male. She wasn't. So when Avedon indicates that Lee Hoffman *was* a guy, it shows this isn't the same Avedon in our world after all. I suspect all Avedon Carols, in whatever universe, smoked this much. The one I knew sure did.

"Ansible" was and still is a fannish newssheet published in the UK. Only these days its on-line. Back when I made the "ansible" a computer accessory, it was way-out... unimaginable... science fictional! Originally the word came from an Ursula K. LeGuin novel called "The Left Hand of Darkness," and was a device for communicating between star systems at a faster than light speed.

The script Saara is speaking in is Siroihin. It *is* consistent with her language, and not just a substitution code like "squiggle" is for A, "curley-que" is for B, etc.
