Here's the second part of my "Evolution of Toothed Whales" series. I wanted to illustrate how odontoceti whales have evolved and changed over the years. It's cool seeing how their muscles changed in order to adapt to a marine lifestyle. I will be posting closeups of each animal throughout this month. Check out my skeletal studies to learn more about these animals! Muscles done in marker, colored pencil, and white pen.

Hey uhhhhh question, can I marry this???
I'm a volunteer fossil preparator at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, specifically in the marine vertebrate paleontology department. Meaning, whale evolution is my JAM!!! It's so satisfying to see people put so much love and detail and thought into whale evolution. IMO, it's one of the most fascinating evolutionary stories that we know! Just the other week I was piecing a basilosaurus shoulder blade back together. (IT'S IN A LOOOT OF PIECES, WE HAVEN'T FINISHED YET @w@;;) So, this art, along with your skeletal and fully fleshed out versions of this, make me SO GODDAMN HAPPY!!!!
